Regardless of her place in or out of the line, what you did was considered simple assault, and is a crime. That's like saying someone cut you off in traffic, so you retaliated by ramming into their car, and then claiming that you are justified. Morally you may be, but legally you don’t have a leg to stand on.
Sorry. Judge Judy is going to have a field day with you.

well i do think its completely rude of her if in fact this is true. i think its crap that its also going this far and id say you both will hear it from her. but did she actually shove you? you said shoving sideways....did she place her hands on you and push you? if so, i would probably have done the same thing but not so hard. i think maybe you were a little rough especially with her son there. this is childish on both parts and i would need to hear both sides. also as a respectable person you should have maybe asked her if she was in line...but she obviously wasnt paying good enough attention to the line if she did not notice you walk up and say something right away...like hey excuse me...were standing here or something. idk what will happen since Judge Judy is soo damn uptight and bitchy...she seems to be a hypocrit to me. i cant stand her and i think shes gonna stick it to you. sorry

Judge Judy is a showboating bytch. You should have declined to go on the show. That being said, you are only allowed to defend yourself from attack. If she pushed you a bit and you retaliated by pushing her hard enough to hurt her, you're likely going to lose the case.
To look at an extreme example for illustration purposes, if a woman pushes you in line and you pull out a 44 magnum (that you are legally allowed to carry) and shoot her to death, you're going to prison. Who started it, how long the line was and where people were standing are all irrelevant.

What IS this world coming to! I find this whole thing laughable and can only think that whoever makes this Judge Judy show must be in desperate need of cases. You will probably both be laughed out of court.

I'm not a lawyer, but I saw something like this once. You are being sued for the contact and damages part, right? Did she not initiate contact? Did she shove you? If she did, then like the case I saw once, you could sue. I'm not sure what it's called- assault? She pushed you, you pushed back. Your point about being in line/ not needing to push in is valid, as far as I can see. If you counter-sued, and if everything sounds like it does on here, I suppose I would rule in your favor.

She will probably dismiss the case all together. For the fact that she cant prove it happened that way. And there was a scattered line. She could've done anyone that way, why did she choose you?
Why would they even let such a case go to Judge Judy.?

She was in the wrong, as far as not being in line "properly", but when push comes to shove, Judy is going to rule in her favor, because your shove caused her to fall - with injuries, yet. Be prepared to get yelled at - publicly.

That's an absolutely stupid case. Judge Judy is going to rip you both to peices because it's an utter waste of her time! Chances are, she'll dismiss the charge on the grounds that she can't prove that it was you that caused her to fall. Here's a good defence for you, though; she pushed you, and made a big show of falling herself in a dramatic show for attention - hence why she's now on national TV.

I'm not sure you'll like my answer but here goes.
I don't think she is filing suit for her place in line.
I'm guessing her case is for medical bills suffered from injuries sustained during the fall after you shoved her.
From my experience with the law, and I'm no lawyer.. It doesn't matter who started it, or why they started it. If you push somebody and they fall and get injured you're probably going to be found liable.
Good luck.
