*** ce chap. 15 pp. 179-180 par. 2 Why Do Many Accept Evolution? ***

>>>In the magazine "American Laboratory" a biochemist wrote this about his children’s schooling: “The child is not presented with evolution as a theory. Subtle statements are made in science texts as early as the second grade (based on my reading of my children’s textbooks). Evolution is presented as reality, not as a concept that can be questioned. The authority of the educational system then compels belief.” Regarding evolutionary teaching in higher grades, he said: “A student is not permitted to hold personal beliefs or to state them: if the student does so, he or she is subjected to ridicule and criticism by the instructor. Often the student risks academic loss because his or her views are not ‘correct’ and the grade is lowered.”1........

.....13 Also, many religions have capitulated on the matter of evolution, thus providing no alternative for their people. For example, the New Catholic Encyclopedia states: “General evolution, even of the body of man, seems the most probable scientific account of origins.”13 At a Vatican meeting, 12 scholars representing the highest scientific body of the Catholic Church agreed to this conclusion: “We are convinced that masses of evidence render the application of the concept of evolution to man and other primates beyond serious dispute.”14 With such religious endorsement, are uninformed church members likely to resist even when, in reality, “masses of evidence” do not support evolution, but, instead, actually support creation?

14 The vacuum that this causes is often filled by agnosticism and atheism. Abandoning belief in God, people accept evolution as the alternative. Today, in a number of lands, atheism based on evolution is even the official state policy. Responsibility for much of this disbelief can be laid at the feet of this world’s religions"

Because there is a lot of evidence.

Evidence is the reason why people first conceived of evolution in the first place. People saw things that suggested it, and then they did a ton of studies and tests and observations over decades of time and now it's at a point where there is enough evidence for it that most people think the theory is true.

It's the same as the way people first found evidence that the earth revolves around the sun, rather than the other way around. Then a bunch of people did a bunch of different tests and calculations and observations until everyone came to realize that it's true that the earth revolves around the sun.

because it's been proven correct time and time again

bear in mind that there are thousands of scientists all over the planet for many decades who have dedicated their lives to the study of evolutionary biology. If it were hokum would not one of them have stood up and said so.

The only "scientists" who claim evolution are not involved in and have never been involved in evolutionary biology and/or have very dodgy credentials. They also have an agenda

Oh dear it looks like Natty is one of the many people who need to find out what the word theory really means in science

Well, it is the scientific theory of evolution that has stood up to more criticism then any other scientific theory for the last 150 years. Evolution is backed up by studies, knowledge and observation in over a dozen different scientific fields. There has been no credible counter explanation to this theory. Read Dawkins' "The Ancestor's Tale" or Gould's "Structure of Evolutionary Theory", if you want to gain a great understanding of evolution.

even if you don't understand evolution it is hard to say that there is not a link between all beings. First look at a dogs face, then look at a horse face, then look at that of a bears. You can't honestly say that there are no similarities in their appearance. It is like looking a someones child and them resembling a parent. They are not exactly the same, but you can tell that they are related. So the real question is why doesn't everyone except evolution.

Many believe in evolution because they have ability to examine the evidence and ponder it, and there is evidence to examine and ponder. Religionists do not believe in evolution because they are prohibited by their religion from examining evidence, as that could lead to sedition.

Because it offers a "modern" and "scientific" version of events.

If you look at the creation viewpoint you might recognise that it is a simplified version of what we currently call "evolution". It would be easier to comprehend when people don't fully comprehend ideas on genetics, heredity, mutation, etc.

I don't really see much difference between the biblical account and the scientific version of events apart from the level of detail.

It is a highly supported scientific theory. Most people accept scientific theories like gravity, germs, molecules, and cells. Also, there is no alternate theory to evoution.

Because it makes much more sense than some invisible supreme being used his magical hands to scoop up some dirt and mud to make a man, then breathed life into him, after that reached into his chest and ripped out a rib and tossed it into another pile of mud and dirt to make a woman.

Evolution has a whole lot of science and evidence behind it. If you want serious answers, why not try doing some serious research. Steer clear of any religious websites as they are chalked full of misinformation.

Because *all* of the available evidence points to evolution. There is no legitimate evidence that points in any direction other than evolution.
