As said, an abbreviation for 'circa'. That's probably most common.

C is also used in Latin as both an abbreviation for 100 and as the symbol for 100 in Roman numerals.

Finally, C is used as the abbreviation for 'Gaius', a common Roman praenomen (given name; first name). I know that it's 'C' and Gaius begins with 'G' - that's a long story in itself.
