Our 11-year-old Australian Shepherd recently developed a one-to-two centimeter tumor on her left lower gum. It was wrapped around a tooth...The vet surgeon removed the tumor and the tooth, but biopsy results will take a week or more to get back, and the tumor might spread. Is there a legitimate dietary supplement that could help improve her immune system, so that she can fight further problems with invasive tumors?

Please pray for our sweet dog. Thank you so much.

E.

That diet has no effect on cancer is absolutely false. Our diet is the building blocks of our body. To answer your question, Ester C is an excellent immune system booster and is easier on the stomach than standard vitamin C. 2000 mg a day for an Aussie sized dog (40-60ish lbs, right?) would be good. Vitamin E is also an antioxidant. 400 IUE is fine for this size. There are many other holistic and homeopathic supplements, but these are two fairly standard ones. I would also get her on a grain free diet. Simple and processed carbohydrates "feed" cancer, so a grain free like Innova EVO, Nature's Variety Instinct, The Honest Kitchen, Orijen, Timberwolf Organics, etc would be the way to go. A home cooked or raw diet would be even better. There are many industrial and agricultural pollutants and pesticides in our drinking water. Make sure you are giving her filtered water (from a reverse osmosis filter or from one of the on the tap filters). Hope your pup gets better!

Forgot to add...along with antioxidants, another good dietary component is foods high in conjugated linoleic acids (CLA). These are especially high in pasture raised grass fed animals. Check at your local farmer's market for farmers who pasture raise their stock.

Go to your local bookstore and see if they have a book by Paul Goldstein, DVM. The Nature of Healing. It has a section on diets for cancer patients. It is an excellent book.

Try this site, for starters.

I had good luck with a very low-carbohydrate, adequate protein, high-fat homemade diet for my girl. She still succumbed to the cancer, but she lived much longer than predicted and was in good shape up 'till the end.

cinnamon, in jell tabs, or sprinkled on her food. I read about it, that it is a cancer fighting antioxident. I have given it to my Rottweiler and Australian shepherd pup, and my boxer mix. It will not hurt them.. I will say a prayer for her. God bless your little girl.

There is not a "tumor fighting diet". If it is found to be NON cancerous, there is not much to worry about anyway. If it is cancer, diet will not help.

There is nothing that I know of that will help. I am sorry you have to go through this and you will be in my prayers.
