Depends on the probability of their being rescued !!
If it is such that both can be saved, I shall TRY to save my spouse FIRST.. !!!!! It is my first & foremost responsibility to honestly try to protect her from all adverse situations !!! It is my duty to BE WITH & GUARD HER at every moment....!!!!
.....And, if the situation is such that only one can be somehow saved, my first option will be to SAVE MY SPOUSE...
....And Pray that my Mother FORGIVES me ..!!!!!!!!!
- - -( Pl note that I SHALL try my best to save BOTH, ....honestly saying !!!!!! I am NOT that poor to lose both my MOMM & my SPOUSE at the same place - same time ; GOD loves US !!!!!)
BUT, but ..... U need to be realistic in Ur views !!!
.....Here however, I have no logic to place before the world !!! ... Mine is a simple earthly Heart !!!
...Got opportunity to read Ur 'Q', looked into my heart, ...and just framed this Answer ......!!!!

First of all, decide who is the better swimmer and therefore able to survive longer while you save the other( assuming that you love both equally and they are your dearest).
It may also be wiser to save the one close-by to you first , otherwise by the time you reach the one further away, you may still not save that person because of lack of time and the tide is against you - and when you turn to the other it is also too late, and you would have lost both.
I do not think that anybody wish to be in such a position to have to make a choice. Have a Merry Christmas.

A.) If my mum or spouse fell in?!! LoL. Do I have to?!! Ha. Let thy divine Lord, decide whether or not it's their time.
"I help those who help themselves". -thy divine lord
B.) That depends, who left me more in their will?
C.) My mum she gave me life, without her nothing would have been possible; thus I wouldn't have anything not even existence.
D.) My spouse, without him I have no future. Nor any help with our kids.
E.) My mum, I can always get another spouse.

IT IS NOT ABOUT LOVE SINCE WE LOVE THEM BOTH. SO I WOULD FOLLOW THE LOGIC OBVIOUSLY AND SAVE MY MOTHER FIRST SINCE SHE IS A WOMAN AND HAS LESS PHYSICAL STRENGTH AND MY SPOUSE IS A MAN AND SHOULD BE ABLE TO HOLD ON FOR A BIT LONGER. FOR THE OPPOSITE SEX THOUGH IT WOULD BE TRICKY SINCE THEY ARE BOTH WOMEN A MAN WILL HAVE TO SAVE BUT I WOULD SAY THE PHYSICAL PRINCIPLE APPLIES AGAIN OF THE FORCE AND RESISTANCE, THE SIZE, WEIGHT ETC SO THEY CAN BOTH BE SAVED :)

save both.
but if this is a straight up either/or question, i'd have to say spouse. reason being that you and your spouse have your entire life in front of you. you might have children etc, whereas your mom, given the fact that you're already married, would most likely be in her older years already.
i love my mom to death btw.

My mom is a snail who would shrivel up from the salt, so there would be no saving her.
My wife is a mermaid who has been dying to return to the sea ever since I absconded her from Neptune's pleasure-dome.
I am afraid I would lose them both.
Ah the sea! She is a cold-hearted wench!

Your spouse, he has more time to live, or your mum, she can't swim most likely. That's the logic of both. I choose my mum.
