Also when you say Christians do you mean anyone who follows Christ or something else? I know how people like to lump everyone into one category. Could you maybe be more specific when it comes down to judging "christians" or talking about them. I am baptist, and no not affiliated with the westboro baptist church in anyway, THEY NEED JESUS.

But I thought persecution was an important part of your faith. Aren't you happy to take up Jesus' cross?

But all blasphemy aside, atheists mostly attack Christians because they happen to be westerners. They are therefore more familiar with Christian doctrine and more affected by its effects on society. Plus, those who are keeping the debate alive with atheists on this site are, for the greater part Christians; So they are the ones being responded to.
Muslims on here don't try to prove there is a God or disprove evolution (for the great majority), while Hindus and Buddhists think these are rather odd debates.

When asked, I say I do not believe any deity to be a real entity from any belief system. How is that an attack on christianity?

I'm married to a christian, my whole family is christian and I know there are plenty of good christians out there from all denominations. I assess people on their individual character not on a mere label. Interestingly enough though, sometimes I do not get the same treatment in return, at least on this board, because I am an atheist.

Rational debate is a matter of trigger and response, so if a Christian is overtly trying to force their views on others (atheists, agnostics, and people of different faiths) then those that object will respond. If other faiths act in the same way then people respond to those provocations too.

If it appears to you that only Christians are attacked then you must be in a situation where you regularly see Christians imposing their views on others. Look at the lives of other people and they might say that other faiths are continually being attacked.

Who says we only debate with christians? Any Scientologists come on here I'll rip into them too. Actually I'd rip into them harder, the brainwashing *muttermutter* *****.

Back on topic though. I disagree with all religions, and have debated with deists and muslims in the past. You simply notice the discussions with Christians more for three reasons.

1) There are more christians on english speaking websites than any other religious group.
2) I, and many other atheists, grew up as Christians, so I am more familiar with it than any other religion.
3) You notice "attacks" on christianity more because you're Christian. You don't pay attention to criticism of other religions in the same way you do with your own.

you know this site has a search function that works perfectly well

You could maybe see how many times this question has been asked already.

I wouldn't say they attack
Most atheists are from predominantly xian countries. Xianity is what we know. I bet you're slapping your head at the sheer obviousness of it.
I would think that most atheists consider that anyone who says they follow the teachings of jesus is a christian (regardless of whether you consider they are really doing so or not)
The Westbro church would argue that you need jesus.

Probably because Christians react in amusing ways when atheists "attack" them.

But my personal opinion is that a majority of people participating in this category are Christians and Atheists, so when one group asks a question to the other, they refer to them as "Christians" or "Atheists".

And yes, strong atheists are appalled by the so-called "stupidity" of the Christians.

I personally don't believe in God, but I do believe that it's less lonely to be a Christian. At least you'll never feel alone - God's there for you.

Okay with the comment said by Jonh Paul

We did not say that jesus created the world

We said Jesus died for our sins so that we could be saved and inheirit the kingdom of God and live heaven on earth

God made the earth

John Paul!

Jewish is a totally different religion than Christianity

God wanted the Jews to believe, but they chose not to believe in Jesus, so they are waiting for another prophet!!

That's why they celebrate Hanukkah's while Christians celebrate Christmas!!

I really would like to know where you get your facts!!

How is Christianity a Blood cult?

or you can just believe that one day a big bright star appeared and took a few million years and it made all the other things...

Cuz u have proof of that

"Could you maybe be more specific when it comes down to judging "christians" or talking about them."

Pot meets kettle.

The imaginary un-godly 'collective' you are addressing is more correctly spelled 'atheists'.

I 'attack' religion in the same way I 'attack' politics. It's called argument.

Logically, there would be more ways to disbelieve in all deities than there would be to believe in one deity according to one 'holy' book, yet Christianity universally labels ALL those that don't believe in it's god to be 'fools' (at best).

Atheism is ONLY viewed in a pejorative way by the teachings of Christianity (or Islam), so you are probably getting at least what you bargained for...?

And you are arguing for more 'specifics'? Stones and glass houses comes to mind, although I do agree that more people could be more specific, whatever their argument.

Good luck with your precise taxonomising of 'non-believers', as I think your 'Bible' is pretty much black and white about how to view them:

Negatively.

In my experience many atheists have a limited understanding of what Christians believe they like to lump us all like Westboro type fundies. In reality there are many who are following the true message of Christ and are involved in anti poverty campaigns , peace groups , family reconciliation , etc. I think they should educate themselves more and not just swallow the rantings of bigoted atheists like Richard Dawkins.

Why do you lump atheists into one category?
I say Christians because there seems to be so many different types that I really cannot keep up sorry.
