maybe the os is corrupted. you need to reformat your computer. if it does not work, your hard drive is corrupted. remove your hard drive and reformat the hard drive by adding it to another computer. then, place it back in your computer. try to format it again. if it does not work, buy a new hard drive(last option).

You could give the "Recovery Console" a try. To do this, first enter the bios and set the boot sequence so that the cd rom boots before the hard drive.

Now read the following.

USING THE WINDOWS REPAIR CONSOLE

Put your XP disk into your CD drive and restart your system. This will start the XP installation process. When you come to the screen that asks if you want to install XP or if you would like to “Repair” XP, choose Repair. This will open the repair console command prompt. At the prompt, type: chkdsk /r. (There is a space between the k and the /. Now hit “Enter”. The repair should now start. Allow it to run until it stops. This can take some time, so be patient.

If all goes well, XP will replace any and all missing operating system files.

First thing to do is change the BIOS to boot from CD and make sure the settings are correct for the hard drive. Save the settings and reboot. Insert the original or recovery CD and see if you can get to the hard drive to do a recover. If not you will have to do a format and reload. If you cannot get to the drive, then yes, it will require a new one.
