i recently wiped all my data in a file by mistakenly replacing it with an empty file of the same name, is there any way to retrieve thwe data in the previous file?

there's 14 hours worth of work that must surely be lurking somewhere on my computer!!!

This is one time when there is no way to recover the file (that I have ever found). Once you have saved the new blank document file the old document information is gone.

You could search for all .tmp files on your computer and see if there is an older version still open somewhere on your disk. (assumes you have not quit Word). But it is highly unlikely.
