You are quite intelligent to ask these things, because in spirituality this is where the journey begins.
The true purpose of life is Self realization and ultimately
God realization.
Right now too many people identify with their bodies. They don't ask WHO they really are, eg:
people say: " these are MY hands/legs, this is MY body"
They don't ask WHO that body really belongs to.
Once you've realized WHO you are, you can go on to the next step, The truth about birth and death. How the Law of Nature works. Who made those laws and why,
How to free yourself from unhappiness, and live a happy meaningful life: a pure spiritual life.
If you have a personality, then by all means God has one too. But God has Everything in abundance. To know how much God has and How great he is, you would have to know how much there actually is besides what you currently know.
We only have limited qualities, because we are only a part and a parcel of Him. To understand this, here is an analogy:
There is the mighty ocean and we are like a drop of water from that.
This means that we have the same qualities as the ocean, but ours is much less and very limited. The ocean still remains, immeasurable, etc.
However the relationship between us and God is like that but infinite times greater.
So there's plenty to learn and all may not be done in a short space of time. Your time here is not as long as you may think, and you if you want to begin a new quest that is meaningful and enlightening then you need to research some facts...
If you don't believe in reincarnation, go do research, Look for books by Ian Stevenson, I think it's recollections of the dead.
Then if you believe in you evolved from an ape, read forbidden archeology: Michael A Cremo, If the book is too long go check out ISCKON centre book shop in Soho and ask for the DVD's. Also get the Science of Self Realization: by His Devine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta swami Prabhupada.
See for yourself the truth. I think that's a boost enough to get you started on what you're meant to.

I felt sorry for myself for not having shoes until I saw a man with no feet; when all we do is me me me ; it gets old after a while ; you help others, volunteer , give of your talents and time; you focus on something besides just you and things will change; there are people who are dying and would give anything to be healthy ; to have one more day and you are being selfish about me me me ; what's the point; the point is everything , the beauty of a bird in flight; the sound of a wave on the beach; a perfect snowflake, the greatest music that you have ever heard, the greatest love that you ever felt or will feel someday ; you make every day count , you are kind to other, do something without needing to be thanked; walk an animal in a shelter or try to find them a good home; you go to a senior center and donate a plant , a plate of food; etc; a convalescent home where our elderly have been abandoned; you get involved in the political system to help change it ; you mentor someone ; you pick up trash that people throw out the window ; you collect money to help animals from slaughter ; the list is endless ; get away from the mirror and live a life

The only point in living is to know God.
i asked myself the same question ur asking....... because i realized that years and years from now, i will die. And what's the point in sacrificing right now? (like i'm a college student now, and what's the whole point in striving hard to pass an exam? so what if i pass the exam now??? what next? another exam..and so on) ... It won;'t change the fact that i will die.
after everything we go through in life.. the ending is the same.. the sad silent grave where our children and grandchildren will just visit and bring flowers once a year..
but if we use this life to know God and to make Him happy, then, there;s meaning to life. if we live our lives out right then, and live each day like a prayer or an offering to God, then, we know that every single move we make is for a purpose.
:-)
since the 24day is a prayer, we strive hard that everything we do is good, and even a very little thing like smiling is meaningful

Keep asking questions like that and the only tangible thing you will end up with is more depression.
Personally I follow Aristotle's module of seeking Eudaimonia through contemplation.
But unfortunately, 'I think therefore I am depressed.'
So basically we have a choice,
Happiness or Enlightenment?
'Were ignorance is bliss, tis folly to be wise.'
A life lived in misery is barely worth living at all, so whatever it is you eventually decide on, just don't forget to enjoy it, have fun and whatever you do, don't take life too seriously, you won't get out alive!

You make your own purpose in life.
There is no grand universal "point" to it all. If the whole Earth were to blow up tomorrow, it wouldn't affect the universe much. Far greater explosions happen in it all the time.
However, my life has value to me. All of my experiences, both good and bad, add to my life. So, really, it does not matter to me if I'm part of some superdeity plan or not. My life is important to me now. Don't assume that just because something is short lived, it is less value.

Living is the point.
You never know when you are going to make a difference in someone's day just by being.
Open the door for someone.
Smile for no reason.
Be polite.
Little things like that. Life does not have to be grandiose to be happy/successful/meaningful. Life is what you make it, honestly.

The point in living is to live. I don't know what's got you down, but suicide is a permanent fix to a temporary problem. Cheer up. It can only get better. You'll find what you are looking for.

Isn't the fact that we were born enough reason to live?
Sometimes, if you can't enjoy life, the only meaning left is to live as long as possible.
I'm quite depressed and I tend to think that way so that I won't commit suicide. And somewhere inside me I also believe that, as I live for the sole purpose of surviving, happiness might just wash upon my shore.
