Do you have post natal depression now, or do you fear having to go through it again because you're thinking of trying for another baby?
In both scenarios, you need to seek some help and support. You know what it feels like already, I don't think you really need anyone to explain to you what it feels like; you need advice on how to cope with it and get through it. Post natal depression can occur with hormonal changes after child birth, your reactions as a result of feeling so low can put you into a vicious circle; then other stresses in your life are more difficult to cope with. medical / supplementary help with your hormones and counselling can be a great help, but it's also important to have relief from any further stresses when you return home with your new baby. Do you have a supportive boyfriend or husband? Will you be able to seek support from your family or close friends?
Visit your doctor or family planning clinic to seek advice and support.
Do take care, I hope this all works out for you.

Your kid must be a new mother, then. Post natal depression is something that can strike new mothers, it's more than just the baby blues that make most new mothers feel a bit low and weepy for a few days. Post-natal depression can be treated medically so she should talk to her GP or another doctor as soon as possible. Otherwise she might find it hard to look after the baby.

It is really self explanatory......that is to say, a Depression that is experienced after the birth of a child. Your child does NOT have it, it is exclusive to the Mother. I am not a qualified Psychiatrist or Dr, but in simple terms, after all the emotional highs that accompany a pregnancy and Birth, major Hormone fluctuations, you find yourself slipping into a "depression". Let's face it, ev erything is more or less "rosey" for nine months, and then suddenly everything changes and you deliver a new child into the world and all the responsibilities that go with it, then you have your figure/body to worry about, let's face it, few instantly regain their figure after a birth. Then there are pressures from husbands, family, work and everyday life.......it can easily become Overwhelming.

There are three types of depression after childbirth.
'Baby blues'. This is so common that it can be considered normal. Symptoms include being weepy, irritability, and feeling low. It usually starts around the 3rd day, but usually goes by the 10th day after childbirth. It does not need any medical treatment.

Postnatal depression. This occurs in about 1 in 10 mothers. It usually develops within the first 4-6 weeks after childbirth. However, it can start even several months following childbirth. Treatment is advised. Most of this leaflet is about this common form of depression.

Postnatal psychosis. This is an uncommon, but severe, form of depression. It develops in about 1 in 1000 mothers. It is discussed briefly at the end of this leaflet.
