Not all Christians take scripture accurately from the bible and that is why one must study it for themselves. I have read the bible for 26 almost 27 years now and am learning something new every day. I have seen inaccurately quoted scripture, scripture taken out of context and quotes that appear to be scripture but are not. I take everything with a grain of salt until it is proven out to me in scripture.
I do agree that Christians should know what they are talking about before they go saying things but I am not their God. It certainly would be a better testimony though. I find this in many areas of life too, not only in Christianity. People only take what they want to hear and go off on that when there is a wealth of info that they should really obtain before they talk about a particular issue. Politics being one! The War! etc.
Opinions and convictions are a whole arena in itself.
Fact is we are learning or should be learning every day.
The Bible is something that will take us eternity to fully understand. I like what I have read and embrace it, so I have chosen to spend eternity with Jesus to learn and live more like Him!
The most important thing is the heart of a person. If a person is truly searching for the knowledge of God then God will lead them as he led me! God sees the heart and knows how to direct those who seek the truth. He also knows how to keep the intellectuals chasing their tails and never coming to the knowledge of the truth because they often don't want the truth!

This is because all of the different denominations are too busy trying to be the only ones who are right. In my experience, the Bible has been taken way too literally and misinterpreted way too much, usually due to an underlying motive such as political control of the populace or the desire of oppression of a particular group of people. If there is anyone who doubts this, just do some serious research on the origins of different denominational beliefs, interpretations of and decisions made on the Bible, etc.
Now there are all of these people left with the crap that was passed down to them through their particular denomination that have built their entire lives upon it. And they will defend it to the hilt, even if it means choosing to remain ignorant or deceitful, rather than admit that they and everything that they have been taught are wrong.
In my opinion God got his message across loud and clear. It was the messengers (creators of religion) that got it all screwed up.
I agree with Q-T...everyone I know who has left religion behind and seeks spirituality instead actually gets it.

I think you are mistaken, look around you and you will see that all human beings aren't the same. If we are not all the same then you cannot expect everyone to reason and interprete things in the same way.
With that said, christians are normal, ordinary people trying to live a Godly life according to the word of God, they are not perfect human beings because they are christians therefore you cannot expect all christains to reason in the same way.
The Bible is subject to interpretation, so we all read it with the help of the Holy Spirit and obtain our own understanding.
Of course there are matters that cannot be argued about like "thou shalt not commit adultery, kill, steal or matters about righteous living e.g. homsexuality etc.
All in all christians do agree on issues but sometimes there are matters that people are caught up in and they may try to justify why they are right.

The Bible is made up of many books and divided into Old and New Testaments there is some scripture which interpretation has been debated .But overall the message is the same and is in general agreement throughout the denominations . The most important point is about Christ and salvation which is quite clear in scripture for everyone to see.

My view is that Religious books, the Bible, the Quran, the Bagavadgita, the Apocrypha, the Psuedopigrapha...
are NOT God's word... but Man's search for God & Good Orderly Direction
Thoughtful men wrote those things... we do ourselves a disservice by not being thoughtful ourselves regarding these materials.... some are better than others.

the answers form the believers to this question highlight your point perfectly.
It is not a new debate either. The early church was riven in 2 between the followers of Paul and the followers of James, the former holding that slavation was only possible threough belief in Jesaus, the latter holding that your actions in this world played a part as well.
Luckily they settled their differences long wnough to exterminate the Arians before resuming the debate.

Excellent point... right on target.
And your good common sense probably means that the Word of God Jesus was speaking about in the Parable of the Sower was NOT the Bible. And besides, the Bible didn't even exist when he was speaking about the Word of God.
His Word of God is still a mystery... like it or not.

I think he's gotten his word across real clear. To me religion has always been mans opinion. Spirituality comes from within. God to me speaks through my heart. The Bible is a guide..like a map when you are lost. Usually leads you in the right direction.

A challenge to all those that believe in Christianity and GOD!?
I challenge any Christian to provide a rationale for this absurdity: Lets say for the sake of simplicity, a person was evil everyday of their life, for 70 years. How do you rationalize, and see the fairness in an All-Loving GOD, damning that person to hell for all eternity? To show you how absurd this would be, that's 70 years of evil, and let's say, a billion years of paying for it? (I know an eternity is more than a billion, but I wanted to mathematically show how grossly unfair it would be to spend a billion plus years in hell, for 70 years of evil??)
Answer: Your evil person walked the Precious Blood that Jesus sh ed for this person's sin on a cross after being scourge with 39 lashes of the whip called the cat of nine tails to the point of death with the metal and bone pieces tearing the skin of Jesus body horrible to the point that most people could not live through this scourging and the torturer would have to stop short of 39 lashes. Then the Roman soldiers plated a crown of thorn and beat it into the scalp of Jesus with rods. Put a robe of purple on Jesus and Mocked and spit on him then made Jesus carry the cross that Jesus would die on up Golgotha Hill outside of the City of Jerusalem to be crucified for this sinners evil deeds.
But this evil person walked the Precious Blood of Jesus under foot and rejected the Crucifixion where Jesus paid this persons Sin Debt and all of mankind as well.
God has every right to turn such a evil person in Hell because he was so arrogant and wicked that he rejected Jesus and the sacrifice that Jesus had made for him.
So Christians, how do you rationalize this as being fair and just?

Some would say that there are many ways to heaven, others will staunchly assert (almost in most cases) that THEIR way is the true way and so forth.
This is the result of having a "personalized" belief system where diverging polarities inevitably arise.
