In my experience, the lines between both are blurred in a good sexual relationship. For example, in my current one, I prefer my man to take control. But that doesn't mean I do nothing. In fact, I'm actually more in control than he is, as the way he dominates is what I desire. If he does something I don't like or don't want to do that particular time, what I say goes. And of course things go the other way too. When I choose to be dominant, he's actually the one in control of things.

It all depends on the guy you're talking to... just like all girls are different, all guys are different too. Though I've heard that the majority like to be dominant, a lot like to be submissive too. My ex was submissive and my current is VERY dominant and I LOVE it.

IMHO - men prefer women to submissive. Men feel they need to be "in charge" and that doesn't stop in the bedroom. I'm not saying it is right or wrong but thats a males trait.

Actually baby girl there's no such thing as a collective gender preference. everyone has it own ways in life, specially when it comes to sex.
For example me, women have to be both submissive and dominate, some times it is good to allow the girl to move the way she wants, and guide me through her perfect world of sex intercourse.
Common sense is everything when it comes to sex.

depends on the guy....a chick who is forward is really hot if its only in private - you know that whole lady in public but a freak in private....other dudes like a girl to be submissive like the whole school girl outfit etc
you could find out by asking him whether he would want you to wear a schoolgirl outfit or really sexy lingerie - his choice means his preference
also if he seems uncomfortable just change it up till you do something he likes
