Jack:
There is always a reason behind my questions. I notice that quite a few Christians answered this question and no atheists. I wonder why? I like all the answers by the way.

I pray for God's will be fullfilled in that person.

Many years ago a family started visiting our church with their children. The daughter was (is) deaf, since she could not grasp the whole message reading the preacher or speaker lips (due to distance, and also due to the microphone in front of his/her face), and since nobody in the congregation knew sign language she talked to an interpreter to come to church to translate the service for her. B.M. (the interpreter) was very well known in the deaf community since she ussually appeared in the TV weather news when hurracaines were approaching our area translating them into sign language. Soon the word was passed among the deaf community that B.M. was intepreting in our church and the numbers of deaf people attending our church started increased from one to more than 25. From one young girl & BM, they started to fill the firsts rows and BM had to move a chair to the front area, between them and the altar to sit where all can see her signing.
What do our church did? We recognize that God was attracting our attention to a sector of our community that was in need. Needing to receive the word of God in their own language. Right away some of the youth & adults started to sit with the deaf borthers and sisters to learn sign language and started to help BM interpreting. Eventually, christian leaders started to grew within the deaf and one of them (my sister in law) was appointed as their associate pastor.

Later God called them to form their own church, my sister in law preaches in sign language while her husband (who is not deaf) preaches/teach the non deaf family members who attend their church. Most of the deaf people went with them to the new church. Currently our church has a married couple who are both deaf and about five church members able to interpret to them the service and many others that know a few signs and even use signs when we are praising to the Lord.

After near 20 years ministring to deaf people, what we have learn? They do not pray much to receive the sense of hearing. For the mayority of them that is not number one, two, or three priority. They pray for spiritual needs, assistance to deal with life conflicts, discrimination issues, better job/school conditions, salvation of unbelievers family members.
A number one priority for them is for we (non deaf people) to see/treat them as we do with any other church member. To see (for example) Joseph as a guy who like thers like cars and is good at mechanics, and also like sports; to not be seen as Joseph the deaf guy who sits over there. they pray for people to see beyond the disability they has, and see them as people, as ffiends, as brothers and sisters in Jesus.

Because everybody is welcome in the church, it brings people together to worship. It doesn't matter if there are people with disabilities inside, all of us have rights to pray or to worship..If I am a church going person with a disability, I would pray for my family, because no matter how many struggles I would face, as long as they are always there for me, I don't dare to ask for more even I have this disability. It's enough for me to just see them alright. With this, I could say that I would die smiling while everyone is crying.

I pray for people, our leaders, sinners, my family, and yes, at times SOME healing If I'm running a temp. or such. I don't pray for a total healing because since I've had a disability I've grown closer to God, and If I were as I used to be,, maybeI would turn to the world more and lose that closness. That I don't want.

All are welcome in God's church but to the point you are trying to make there is no certainty of all disabilities being healed God sometimes uses those who are different to educate others in acceptance and compassion . I know that might sound cruel but i find ignorance, mockery etc the most objectionable. The real certainty is if you accept Christ and repent you are on the right road to salvation .

Prayer is not just for healing or a quick fix to a problem. These people pray for the other things in their life and the people around them and they ask for forgiveness of any sins they may have committed. These things are things all people pray for. There are no specific "diability prayers" because in the eyes of God and Jesus Christ we all appear perfect seeing that we were created in the image of God.
