It is a long way. It will take 12-14 hours. You won't see a thing because it will be dark, (but I hope you would catch some sleep too). You will arrive early in the morning, groggy, and still have to find your way to your accommodation (which will probably be far away from the town).
I know this doesn't directly answer your question, but consider taking a flight. It's just over an hour, and there are many flights a day, and the fares are reasonable.
Several airlines fly there from Bangkok. I flew on Thai International. I'm sure the following also fly there: Nok Air, Thai Air Asia, Bangkok Airways.
Good luck.

It will take well over 12 hours, so probably best to take a night bus! I'd also recommend getting a government bus rather than some organised tourist bus. They are more comfortable and there is less chance of getting scammed...

About 12 hours - would definitely recommend getting government bus rather than a private hire bus. They tend to be a bit dogy and have been known to stop off for a comfort break and just leave everyone there and steal the luggage !!!
