I am not a drinker, but have a "dinner and drinks" meeting at a fine restaurant here in Las Vegas. Is it ok to just drink water, or is there some other beverage that is more "acceptable" for non drinkers? I don't want to look foolish. This is my first time in this situation.

OK, I've worked in a high-profile Wall Street type job or two, and I've been friends with non-drinkers that are managerial types. I notice that they tend to order things like club soda with lime, or with cranberry juice, or something like that. Something that resembles a cocktail, or shows that you put some thought into your drink selection (and aren't just ordering coke). As silly as it seems, the way you order drinks shows a lot about you in situations like this, and you want to seem mature and interesting, the same way you would if you were to choose an interesting wine. There's also always cappucino and other coffee drinks.

Ok, Who ever said that a business dinner & drinks appointment meant that the drinks had to be alcohol?? Why do people alway just assume this? Just order what you feel like drinking. If you want water then get water. Or you can get tea, coffee, or even a soft-drink. If someone does say something then just tell them you don't feel like drinking any stronger that day. That way you don't have to tell them anything else unless you want too. JUst be your self. If the people give you a hard time about it then maybe you should look for a better bunch of people to either work with or work for. That will have to be your chose to make or stay. I hope this helps you!! GOOD LUCK!!

Just ask the bartender or waiter/waitress whether they have any non alcoholic beverages and they should tell you. There may be a list of non alcohol drinks section in the menu. I normally ask for orange juice or pick out a non alcoholic cocktail which are rally nice. If you're unsure about the drinks being served just ask and no you won't look silly so long as you don't make too much of a big thing about it

You won't look foolish at all. As it's a fine restaurant they will probably serve you a bottled water with ice and a slice of lemon. You just choose flat or sparkling, and what you then have will look very similar to alcoholic drinks like Gin and Tonic or Vodka and Tonic, so people will probably not even be aware of your choice.

Nowadays more and more people know in any case that it is cool not to drink alcohol.

Its perfectly proper not to drink alcohol in the same way that just because you go "for coffee" doesn't mean you have to drink coffee. If you are concerned with someone noticing you are not drinking, just order a different type of drink. Ask for a coke with lime, a sweet tea with extra lemon. If you pick something that is a little unique then no one is going to think twice about your lack of wine or anything. If someone offers you wine from the bottle just smile and say no thank you. Don't mention you don't drink, its no ones concern that you are having a meeting with. And you never know...they might not drink as well.

purely order the beverage you truthfully need to drink, whether it fairly is an iced tea, water, juice, or the rest. i do no longer prefer to sound harsh, yet at 23 you're able to be over the finished "peer tension" element. If somebody makes a remark, they are the two immature or making a lame attempt at humor. purely have an answer arranged, alongside with, "What I do for exciting is so super that i actually prefer to undergo in ideas it right here day." Say it with a grin, so which you do no longer look rude, and you will have the top hand interior the placement.

If you can order it without anyone around, sparkling water is always good in these situations. It LOOKS like a fancy drink, especially when served in a martini or wine glass, but it's non-alcoholic. Also, pop is often mixed with alcohol like vodka or rum, so who's to know if you have it plain?

If you have to order while sitting at a table with these people, and there's a bar (and most fine restaurants do these days), excuse yourself to go to the bathroom just before the host/hostess comes to get your drink orders. Take your time (the stalls were all taken is a good excuse) and stop at the bar on your way back. When you sit down, comment that you saw they already had their drinks and didn't want to inconvenience the host/hostess.

It's perfectly fine to not drink alcohol at any affair. You can choose a sparkling water with a lemon instead of plain water and look more festive.

Of course it's okay. You shouldn't have to be forced to drink alcoholic beverage just so you can fit in at these types of dinners. If you MUST, you can always order some non-alcoholic beers.
