When Christianity is all about social justice, selling your possessions and being compassionate to those who have nothing? Just wondering, and I found some tidbits to start you off:
He who oppresses the poor to increase his wealth and he who gives gifts to the rich -- both come to poverty." Proverbs 22:16

"Jesus answered, If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.'" Matthew 19:21

I'll offer you a scenario:
There is a man, a respected religious "leader," with his Armani suit, Rolex watch and Mercedes-Benz, preaching in a multi-million dollar "church" complex, who is approached by another man. This young man has longish hair and a beard. He is dressed simply. He tells the preacher he is a hypocrite, that he is exploiting weak-minded, desperate people for his own enrichment. He further tells him he must give up his wealth, disperse it to the poor, and humble himself.
I guarantee you Mr. Religious Leader would be on his cell phone in a flash, calling the police to say he had just been accosted by a pinko-commie-tree-hugging-hippie-LIBERAL who wants to take his money. Then he would call Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity and Laura Ingraham to complain.
Religious Right? Those folks make me want to puke. They don't believe in their gods any more than your average atheist, but they know religion is a great way to control people and collect a lot of loot. It's been going on for hundreds of years, and not likely to end soon.

No real Christian could vote Republican in the USA if they believed the teachings of Christ. The Religious Right are not Christians (even though they call themselves that) but Old Testament Fundamentalists. OTFs can vote Republican, Christians can't.

I'm talking of the Republican party as it is today not as it was in the 19th century.

No, the religious is the basis for the grouping.
The right dates back to the French Revolution where the more traditional IE conservative groups, nobles, church sat on the right of the assembly and the proletariat sat on the left. Hence our references to the conservative right and liberal left..

Christianity isn't all about social justice. It is about understanding that we are dead in our sins, need the Spirit to breathe new life into us so that we may repent. It is about the spiritual much more than the natural/civil.
