My husband has had a rotten tooth since he joined the army (in 2002) he went to the army dentist but they just filled it, well now its starting to get alot worse, it has rotted so much the filing has fallen out and its just to the height of his gums, well now his ear is starting to hurt, and his gum is, not the actual tooth he can tap it and everything but it doesn't hurt. But he cant sleep as soon as he lays down it hurts, the only soulition he has found is to drink cold water (it has been well over 100 glasses in the last two nights) he knows its not good to drink that much but he can't find any other soultion, we don't have the money to go to a dentist, so if we were to pull it ourselfs (the strongest pain reliver is my 500 mg vicodin) what would you say to do?? we do have alot of beer he could drink, but we dont want to do that, also what tips do you have to help it stop hurting him so bad, we cant even sleep at night, because i am too worried to sleep because he is so sore.

Well, he needs to go back to the dentist to get that tooth pulled. For temporary solution, you better rinse his mouth out with tepid, salty water every hour. Just some warm water with a half teaspoon of salt. Gargle it for 2-3 minutes and spit out. Don't swallow! Go to a 24 hour drug store, and buy some orajel extra strength gel. That should numb the pain and probably his whole face. Take some vicodin as well but please don't overdose. Take one every two to four hours. He really should check into his TMC and see a medic so he can get a refer to the Army dentist right away. Do not drink beer! It can cause massive infection. Also there is a repair kit right near the orajel. You can try to fill it in again and use that numbing agent. It works alot like lidocaine. Good Luck!

Depends on how bad the decay is. If it's not hurting that's a good sign. If there is enough tooth structure (after the decay is removed) a large filling may be able to be done, if not the tooth would need a crown and possibly a build up to save it. If you opt to extract it, you will need to put a bridge in, which will end up costing more and drilling teeth next to the bad one. If they are bad as well the bridge is a cheaper way to go, but if not a single crown if the tooth can be saved is best. Or, if you have lots of money you can have the tooth extracted and an implant done. If you dont fill in the space after the tooth is extracted your teeth start shifting, causing gaps, and can lead to other problems. We have teeth for chewing and facial structure, losing them is never a good option. If money is an issue look into having your work done at a dental school. Brushing and flossing will prevent most all dental problems! It's a habit everyone should get into. Take care of your smile, it's the first thing people see. Good luck!

Hello,
It really is not a good idea to pull it yourself.
The tooth is like the leaves to the plant, we can see this however it is the roots that is causing the pain. The roots that we can not see.
Plus I have done this before, and the roots were my problem. After many surgeries later (and a good chunk of change) I have learned the hard way. Do not pull your own teeth.
Go back to the dentist.

ADD;
Well if you do pull it I was told it takes 2 weeks for the roots to die. So he will have to put up with the roots dying and the infection. Do not swallow the infected matter, it can make him sicker then a dog.
Isn't there anywhere he can go where they will do this for him. Low cost clinic or something?
Do not put a heating pad on it as well. He may have tried this and it looks like someone punched me in the face. I had problems seeing and everything. The infection made my face blow up.
Lysine you can find it in the vitamins. It helps with the infection in the tooth. It is natural for infections in the head.
I sure wish him the best!!

If he was discharged under honorable conditions, he can go to a VA hospital. Just tell them you can't afford to go to the dentist. They only pull teeth. they don't do fillings or cosmetic stuff.
