There's so much more out there, and I don't know anyone who even cares. What is it exactly that drives people to believe everything the Bible says--in which the Bible says everything everyone else believes is wrong--? Yes, it does have that implication no matter which way you read it, literally or figuratively. Doesn't anybody want to actually seek their own God rather than rely on the one in a book?

I'm not a religious person, but am an independent person. It's just me asking this question.

I'm a former Christian, and so I have experimented with the Bible... a LOT. In fact, at one point in my life, I regarded it as absolute truth.

The Bible is the life, the truth and the only way to our eternal happiness. Yes there are a lot of things out in this world that we do that is against God by sinning, like watching something we shouldn't on TV or listening to a dis-respective song. Being a born again Christian gives me a different outlook on life. Yeah man made this, and that, ou that's cool. Look at your bodies how they work, God made that, look at the sun, God made that, look at the ocean God made that, and everything else in the world. His letters to us in the Bible should be read, studied and loved. And then I think there would not be any question of it being right. God is the one and only living God, He told us to not be fooled with false Prophets. Paul said even if an angel from Heaven tells you differently, do not believe. The only real truths of this world is in the Bible .

Of course, there is more truth than just the bible. For example, it is true that, as I type this, my desk lamp is on. It is true that the sun is shining even though I cannot see it at night. It is true that the internal combustion engine has proven very effective in transportation.

The bible does *not* say "everything everyone else believes is wrong", and you should read it before making such assertions so that you do not lose the respect of your peers. For example, I believe that it will rain tomorrow. Maybe I'm wrong, but if so, the bible does not oppose my belief.

I assume that you are referring strictly to religious matters. Again, the bible does *not* state that "everything everyone else believes is wrong". Indeed, quite the contrary. However, it *does* claim that *contrary* beliefs are wrong. This is *quite* a different kettle of fish. Again, I recommend that you read the bible before expounding on false impressions that you have gleaned from those who have not so done.

So, what I am getting from you is, "How do I know that the Bible is the true word of God?"

Through a relationship with him. The thing about the Christian faith is that it is based on building a relationship with God through Christ by the Holy Spirit. It is this relationship that reveals the truth that the Bible provides. If you are one who does not truly believe in the Bible or completely believe in the God that the Bible talks about than the truth of His word will not be shown to you.

The second part of your question, do I want to seek out my "own god." The answer would be, is and will always be NO. I am not relying on "one in a book" but a child of the only true God and a co-heir to the Kingdom of Heaven. I would not want to trade ANYTHING that either the world could offer or my flesh could long for in exchange for my Faith in what the Bible has to offer.

Thank you for your question and God Bless.

Nobody knows, but one thing is for certain, religion has changed throughout time a billion times. We now laugh at the Romans for their religious beliefs with Zeus and all their Gods, and in 2000 yrs i bet ppl will look back and laugh at our ideas and beliefs. There is no proof that the Bible has any real meaning, there is no idea who wrote the Bible, nobody even knows why it was written. It could have just been written as a book to read, as a story and someone mis interpreted it, was very wise for their time and very good at persuading others and created a big ordeal out of nothing. I think life experiences teach you what to believe in. I believe in something, but organized religion is not the answer in any way, IMO. But who knows, these are all opinions.

Hi.The Bible is not the word of God. God did not write the Bible. It was written by man from memory, that is why there are 60 or so versions,in English alone, and all are significantly different from each other. If God wrote the Bible there would only be one.I have never read the Bible.I know how God wants me to live my life.

EDIT.....The apparitions of Mary and Jesus and there messages for mankind have made the Bible redundant. But no one believes. For example. On February 22 1931,Jesus appeared to ,Sister Faustina of the Congregation of Our Lady of Mercy .He asked her to proclaim to the World,a new gift,an amnesty for mankind,a way to become new Christians, cleansing our souls of all past sins ,and obtaining complete remission of all punishment,by appealing to Our Father through the Passion and Mercival Love of Jesus. What a wonderful gift from God but nobody believes. No body believes the apparitions of Mary at Medjugorje asking us to convert before the second coming which will be soon. No one believes. It just goes to show humans are not very smart when they are given the solution to their problems that are not in their Bibles. They hate to be told.(especially by God and Mary).

You ever try to do things the way the bible suggests or live the way the bible suggests? You may find there is a reason people think it's the truth. Read it, experiment. By all means think for yourself, but don't discount what millions of people have experienced just because you do.

Absolutely YES. The biblical truth is only an aspect, one that requires a lot of digging and discerns to know what is God’s word and what are human additions. In general terms speaking truth is everything one accepts as true and accurate reality.

I'll take the hit.

There are plenty of truths out there besides the Bible.

I passionately care.

The Drive - Nothing compares to what the Bible says, offers, proves, and promises.

Everyone does not believe it is wrong.

If each were to have our own God, we would have chaos.

The one in the book; happens to have overwhelmingly proven himself beyond belief as to His reality, authority, authenticity, and generosity.

Having answered each of your concerns; please answer this.

If all I said is not true, why are so many trying passionately to destroy Him over all of the others?

If you define truth as the word of god, no need to continue this discussion. You win everything. Congratulations!

If you have the ability to see more than black and white, you are on a good path to enlightenment and continued growth in your life. You will never find the truth, that is, the ultimate question to life, the universe, and everything. However, you can live a happy life and enjoy the time in between birth and death.

True spirituality is finding harmony with one's self. Why would one look to external sources for true happiness and spiritual development?
