It's all about something special to the two of you. Perhaps if the two of you are beach bums, consider taking a cruise together. While on one of the islands, take a walk on the beach at sunset and propose then.
If the two of you love wineries, see if you can "make your own wine" at a local winery and propose by creating a "Will You Marry Me?" label.
Go to the first restaurant you went to.
My husband and I love white water rafting. We did a day of white water rafting and then went to dinner at the romantic Biltmore Inn. We had a bottle of wine and creme brulee. Afterwards he got down on one knee and proposed.
Are you a romantic? Are you laid-back and relaxed? Propose in your own style. Be it all out at a gourmet restaurant with champagne or be it hiking in the mountains. Whatever has a special meaning to the two of you.
However my best ring got engaged in a parking lot at a Golden Corral. Yeah--that didn't work out. I don't recommend something like that--after all this is a story you'll tell everyone.
