Well why couldn't he be in Heaven until he finds out whether or not he will be resurrected?

Muhammad is dead and according to the Quran, WILL go to Heaven on the day of judgment. There is no concept of a special resurrection of Mohammad in Islam. The belief is that everyone will be resurrected to have their 'accounts settled' on the day of judgement.

I don't see what one has to do with the other. I suspect that Muslims believe that Muhammad is indeed in heaven as he is one of God's chosen prophets. According to the Qu'ran we should all be looking forward to the Resurrection of the Body on the final day regardless of whether one is in Heaven or Hell.

Perfect Happiness: Now and Forever
[41:30] Those who proclaim: "Our Lord is GOD," then lead a righteous life, the angels descend upon them: "You shall have no fear, nor shall you grieve. Rejoice in the good news that Paradise has been reserved for you.
[41:31] "We are your allies in this life, and in the Hereafter. You will have in it anything you wish for; you will have anything you want.
[41:32] "(Such is your) ultimate abode, from a Forgiver, Most Merciful."
The Day of Judgment
[39:68] The horn will be blown, whereupon everyone in the heavens and the earth will be struck unconscious, except those who will be spared by GOD. Then it will be blown another time, whereupon they will all rise up, looking.
[39:69] Then the earth will shine with the light of its Lord. The record will be proclaimed, and the prophets and the witnesses will be brought forth. Everyone will then be judged equitably, without the least injustice.
[39:70] Every soul will be paid for whatever it did, for He is fully aware of everything they have done.
The Disbelievers
[39:71] Those who disbelieved will be led to Hell in throngs. When they get to it, and its gates are opened, its guards will say, "Did you not receive messengers from among you, who recited to you the revelations of your Lord, and warned you about meeting this day?" They will answer, "Yes indeed. But the word `retribution' was already stamped upon the disbelievers."
[39:72] It will be said, "Enter the gates of Hell, wherein you abide forever." What a miserable destiny for the arrogant.
The Believers
[39:73] Those who reverenced their Lord will be led to Paradise in throngs. When they get to it, and its gates are opened, its guards will say, "Peace be upon you; you have won. Therefore, you abide herein forever."
[39:74] They will say, "Praise be to GOD, who fulfilled His promise to us, and made us inherit the earth, enjoying Paradise as we please." What a beautiful recompense for the workers!
[39:75] You will see the angels floating around the throne, glorifying and praising their Lord. After the equitable judgment is issued to all, it will be proclaimed: "Praise be to GOD, Lord of the universe."

In line with islamic religion all dead humans including all prophets and God's messengers are in the alam barzah or waiting room now. They are waiting the resurrection day when God will make a final and fair judgement of all humans and satans. The bad humans and satans will go to hell and they will be tortured by a very hot fire. The good humans including all prophets and God's mesengers who have no sis at all or their sins have been forgiven by God will go to heaven and they will be rewarded by convenient and happy lives without any shortage.
Muhammad pbuh,Jesus,Moses,Jacoob,Abraham and other prophets will go to heaven and they will sit besides God as the highest level in heaven.
In the alam barzah (waiting room) the souls of dead humans have been given a preliminary rewards or punishments..Alam barzah, heaven and hell are as big as this universe with its contents.(this earth, stars, moon, sun etc and 7 level of the skies)On the resurrection day all dead humans will be awaken up and will be weighted all of their bad doings and good doings and they will be shown its records by the angels.

In Islam, there is SEVEN levels of lifes. No.6 is the life in Judgement Day, No.7 is Heaven/Hell.
We are now on 4th level only.

Islam holds that all the prophets go directly to heaven after death. So he is currently in heaven.
