Ok, so my sister is taking her citizenship test in a few days, but she doesn't understand one of the questions. It asks "Who is the head of your local government?". The answer says to look it up in a local library because it depends on where you live. We don't get who it's asking for, the mayor??? Who else can it be?? Please help we're stuck and this is very important to us =]. Any answers are appreciated =]

It would be the mayor or equivalent - some towns have village presidents, some have city managers. The titles and job descriptions are somewhat different, but they're all the head of the local government.

local government does usually refer to the city, town or county council, so the head would be the mayor.

another word for local government is municipal.

There are usually 3 levels of government - local, state & federal. the county or district is not usually included.

Local implies state, so in that respect, I would think it’s the Governor of the state your in.
The Governor holds the highest office at the local government level or state.
Edit: No one knows who the mayor is unless its someone like mumbles...

the head of your local government means either the mayor of the town or city that you live in or the mayor pro temp. you can go down to your local city hall and find out or look it up on the web. but not for nothing they hardly ever as that question. my mother took her test about 2 yrs ago and they didnt ask her

If you live in a city, the mayor is the head, and the city council is the legislative body.

If you live in a rural or unincorporated area outside a city, then the county executive.

I think local means your town, that would be the Mayor.

The mayor is the head of your local government.

The governor is the head of your state government.

And Congress (or arguably the President) is the head of the national or federal government.

it is the mayor of your city or town, so look up who the mayor of your city or town is and that is your answer. good luck on the test.
