Luk 14:26 If any [man] come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.

sew.....

why do "christians" do the christmas thing?

christmas strengthens family bonds. therefore, it is an antichrist.

so, how many christians are going to take up their cross and stop celebrating christmas and how many are going to be hypocrites and spend the "holiday" with loved ones?

Mat 16:24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any [man] will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

Mat 16:25 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.

what christian has the faith to do as jesus commands and what christians will deny him for the sake of family tradition?

explain how it is taken out of context.

you can claim that it is, but you cannot prove it.

Luk 12:51 Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division:

Luk 12:52 For from henceforth there shall be five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three

where is your evidence?

Luk 12:53 The father shall be divided against the son, and the son against the father; the mother against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother; the mother in law against her daughter in law, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.

jesus says this is his purpose. look it up. then rethink what a "true christian" really means.

you may love your family, but jesus wants to divide you.

another excuser. who denies the gospel and puts political correctness ahead of the teachings of jesus.

Mar 8:33 But when he had turned about and looked on his disciples, he rebuked Peter, saying, Get thee behind me, Satan: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but the things that be of men.

Mar 8:34 And when he had called the people [unto him] with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

no. you are wrong. it is not about putting jesus first. it is about putting jesus Only

Mat 8:22 But Jesus said unto him, Follow me; and let the dead bury their dead.

you may think that scripture always confirms scripture, but when i show it to mean something that you don't like, you deny both scriptures their intent.

which is for christians to deny their existence, including family, for jesus.

Our 'family tradition' is to read Luke 2: 1-20 Christmas Eve. I can still hear my Dad's voice reading..."and it came to pass in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be...." Now I have a daughter and we are continuing to tell her the REAL reason of Christmas. Without the gift of this baby Jesus, we have NO HOPE and this is an important part of our Christian faith. When Jesus was talking to these people He was trying to show them that they had to put Him first like the parable that He had just talked about in verses 15-24. Many that had been given the invitations had given excuses as to why they couldn't go to the feast and those were represented by the Jews who rejected Jesus as the Messiah...so He then took the invitation/message to the Gentiles.
There are too many other scriptures that tells us to love...therefore you have to look further into what Jesus was trying to tell us here. Scripture will ALWAYS confirm other scripture.

That particular verse is referring to a person who wants to join Jesus, but yet wants to do it in his time and on his terms. He wants to take care of the family business, get everyone safe and settled, and THEN join with Christ.
Jesus is telling us that if you are going to be a disciple, that it must come first in all you do. You cannot let worldly things, such as family, stop you from it. It's like the people now who say, "I'll come to church when the kids are gone from the house.... I just don't have time right now!"
As for celebrating Christmas, that is why Lutherans have a tradition of nightly advent devotions, midweek advent services, services on Christmas eve and Chrstimas morning. Christ is first in all we do, with the tree and presents coming second.

You are taking those quotes way out of context. Luke14:26 is telling people God and Jesus always come first in your life. But you can still have a loving family relationship. All these verse are telling people God first everything else second. It does not mean we cannot have family and be close to them. Christmas is what you make it to be. To me is time to remember Jesus' love and sacrifice for me. It is a time to be thankful for my family and enjoy a time of worship with them. I am celebrating Jesus and what He did for me. You can continue to fill superior to everyone else.

Like I said before if the book would have been written by men who actually knew Jesus then this wouldn't have been the case of contradicting personalities, in the book itself.

Man, you're sick.

If Christmas strengthens family bonds, then it is a good thing. Maybe your family when you grew up was dysfunctional by mine wasn't. I was glad my parents celebrated Christmas with us.

Tell me, how can you interpret Jesus' words as really meaning to hate your parents and wife and kids, when God's commandment is to "honour your mother and your father", when Paul writes to "love your wife as Christ loved the church".

What Jesus means, and any person with half a brain's full of common sense would say, is that our relationship with Jesus comes first. The way to trully love your mother and wife and son is to love God with your whole heart.

Jesus meant that we must love him more than our family. If a family member wanted you to do something against his teaching, you should love Jesus more and not go against Jesus.

You have two friends, one you may be closer to than the other. One could say you love one and hate (have less affection) the other.

Christmas is a pagan holiday adopted by current day Christians, Most 19Th century churches outlawed the celebration of Christmas with severe penalties for those who disobeyed.

I guess that's your interpretation. I do not read any such admonishment to give up celebrating the birth of my Savior, and I have a feeling, having worked in churches as a director of music and worship for most of my adult life, that I have more experience with theology than you...not to be rude or anything.

Thanks for your concern. As Charles Dickens wrote in "A Christmas Carol," "You keep Christmas in your way and let me keep it in mine."
