I have a 9 year old Rottweiler who I adopted from the shelter, I don't know what her background was when I got her just 11 months ago, but she has been the sweetest thing. She is a gentle, yet protecting sweetheart. She loves playing with my kittens, and with my neighbors year old infant. Yet my Chihuahua/Beagle mix will bite any child who tries to touch her and despises my cats. There's a reason for the term "gentle giant". Rottweilers are definetly one of them.

Rottweilers are not any more dangerous than any other breed in the wrong hands. Every breed of dog, including mixes, can be dangerous in the hands of the irresponsible. Why single out a breed instead of addressing the real problem of irresponsible owners?
You know in Italy there are 92 breeds of dogs on the dangerous dog list and their list began with 13. That list is not comprised of only large breed dogs. You see people wanted the government to step in and save them from the vicious man killers but now there are breeds on the list such as the Border Collie, Schipperke and Corgi.
Be careful what you wish for and support because you just may get it. Once the government steps in to "save us" from all the dangerous dogs, owning any dog will likely become illegal in the future.
Breed bans will only accomplish the extermination of all breeds of dogs!!! Eventually, if people do not wake up and realize that it is not a certain breed of dog that is dangerous, we may have to visit dogs in the zoo with the rest of the wild and dangerous animals.

This just proves how stupid people are. No breed of dog are born dangerous. I guess I should be glad that people are starting to leave my breed alone, I own a APBT. But wrong is wrong. I have seen gentle rotts. One the play with kids love people and lick them to death. A dog, no matter the breed is what a owner makes them. The rate of rott attacks has gone up. Please ask why? I will tell you. It is because of all the laws coming down against pit bulls. Now those evil people that took pits and made them monsters are doing the same to rotts. Getting rid of the breed will not work. We need to pass harsh laws against people who torture innocence dogs turning them into monsters. People wake-up and smell the coffee BSL is a tool used bt groups like PETA and HSUS to get rid of our pets. Stop falling into the trap and fight back

Sadly most people think it's the dog and the breed that is dangerous and blood thirsty when it's actually those who train the dogs. The Rottweiler is not illegal and it's not his fault that he is doomed to be listed among the dangerous breeds along with the doberman, pit bull and German shepherd. The sad thing is more people are bitten and injured by Akita's, Collies, Labs, and cockers than they are by rottweilers, pit bulls, and dobies. It's the ominous looks that the larger dogs have that make people feel they are dangerous. I've met people who have rottweilers and they are among the sweetest dogs I've ever met. But I've also seen some that were down right mean. And the people who trained the latter dogs were people that wanted their dogs mean to "guard their homes" from people. Please don't bame the dog for the owners neglegence. Put the blame where it belongs, on the owner and the trainer of the dogs.

Well my aunt had breeded rottweilers, and has never had a problem with them in all her life, only one time did her dog attack someone, and that was her ex husband, because he started beating her and her children, no matter what kind of dog you have they will be vicious if you don't train them right. Just because one person has problems with dogs, doesn't mean everyone will it all depends on how they are treated.
and on another note, i would rather have a rot, over any other animal around my children, i have only seen good and protection, from them, more than with anyother breed of dog

It is not the dog that is dangerous ... it is the upbringing that it recieves. True some dogs are inherently violent, just as are some humans. Does that mean that we should just end the lives of all muslims just because a few done something bad? Or all germans because they created a holocaust? No, you have to give each a chance and see what it can be ... in a perfect world nothing bad would happen. Not so in this world.

Why is it legal for people to be prejudiced against a particular breed of dog, a color of a person's skin, someone's sexual preference?
Seems to me that it's a big world and there are lots of things that you may or may not agree with. Banning things you don't like isn't the answer. That's rather short-sighted.

Pft. There are dangerous people too, but are we going to judge everyone from that family, or of that skin color? No.
I think it's wrong to judge an entire breed, based on the actions of a few. Personally, I have NEVER encountered an aggressive APBT or Rottweiler.
The most aggressive dog I knew.....was a Rat Terrier.
Every APBT and Rottweiler I've known & loved, were over-sized lap dogs who just wanted to give kisses to everyone.
If I ever do encounter an aggressive dog of those breeds, I still wouldn't judge the breed based on that. A lot has to do with the background of that dog, the breeding that produced that dog, and SO much more than just what the breed is.
Rottweilers are a personal favorite of mine, because they are devoted family dogs. Chow Chows are another personal favorite, and they're on that ''dangerous breed'' list, too. Again, NEVER encountered an aggressive one!

And it is downright ignorant for you to judge an entire breed because of a few irresponsible owners.
Neither rotties OR pit bulls are "blood thirsty", and are only vicious if not properly trained/socialized...just like any other dog breed. Any dog needs a good owner to be a good dog...and many of these 'tough' breeds end up in the wrong hands.
Please get yourself educated about pit bulls and rottweilers before making such an outrageous comment. And don't listen to everything the media tells you...they have a way of warping people's minds apparently...

It is downright irresponsible for you to judge any breed of dog just because of irresponsible owners who train them to be vicious. Bad dogs are made that way by their owners, not born that way. I was raised with pitbulls and we never ever had a problem, as a matter of fact, I'd prefer a pit bull or a Rottweiler for a dog for my family.
Apparently you have some learning to do, ANY DOG CAN BE TRAINED TO BE VICIOUS AND/OR DANGEROUS BY IT'S OWNER(S). IT IS NOT THE DOG'S FAULT!!!!!!!!!!
