quick mix:
1 (1 ounce) envelope instant hot chocolate mix
2 teaspoons creamy peanut butter

full recipe:
INGREDIENTS
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
3/4 cup white sugar
1 pinch salt
1/3 cup boiling water
3 1/2 cups milk
3/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup half-and-half cream

DIRECTIONS
Combine the cocoa, sugar and pinch of salt in a saucepan. Blend in the boiling water. Bring this mixture to an easy boil while you stir. Simmer and stir for about 2 minutes. Watch that it doesn't scorch. Stir in 3 1/2 cups of milk and heat until very hot, but do not boil! Remove from heat and add vanilla. Divide between 4 mugs. Add the cream to the mugs of cocoa to cool it to drinking temperature.

In my opinion making a good cup of hot chocolate is easy if you are not counting calories....if you are you can still make it tasty but not as rich by using skim milk and sugar free ingredients. Nothing like the real thing though.
For an old recipe I used from my family we start out with:
1/2 cup warm water
4 tablespoon pure cocoa powder
6 tablespoons white granulated sugar
Mix these 3 ingredients together over low heat on stove in deep boiler pot until sugar and cocoa have melted into the water. Next add 2 cups 2% milk or use 1 cup whole milk and 1 cup half and half cream.....heat until it is steaming hot but not boiling top with marshmellows or whipped creme...sprinkles of cinnamon or sweetened chocolate shavings....
If you are a coffee lover add 1/4 cup already brewed coffee or shot of espresso to the cocoa ..for a good mocha. One of my favorite additions is Hazelnut creamer you add to coffee. YUM a great addition like drinking a candy bar.

Old fashioned way--for each cup:1 teaspoon cocoa, 2 to 3 teaspoons sugar and a "half" pinch of salt. (Really!) Mix with a little milk and over medium heat and stir until you have a syrup-like mixture. Do not boil. Now add a cup of milk and keep stirring! Yum...

I take a half cup of water mixed with a half cup of milk. Heat in the microwave for 2 mins. Then add 3 to 4 heaping spoonfuls of Hot Coco Mix. I have it almost every nite. My mom used to make it this way. (make sure you use HOT COCO mix not Chocolate milk mix.) coco is soooo much better than chocolate.
