Both. As simple as that.

Both. Prayer is in words so your higher power can understand what your purpose is for having that communication. The feelings behind those words count as well. Sample situation. Let's say you pray for wealth. It's a wrong thing to pray for but I'm sure some people do it. If you're praying for money because you're broke and you don't see a light at the end of the tunnel, understandable. If you're praying to get money so you can buy a bunch of stuff, just for the heck of it..If I were God, I'd just smite your sorry azz. Get it?

Both. I pray with words and thoughts, but I receive the answers through feelings and confirmations,

Both, but in actions as well...we may have feelings and thoughts, but to put those feelings and thoughts into specific words and take advantage of the power of the spoken word is a great asset. As well, what good are the feelings and / or the prayers is you are not willing to put your principles and beliefs into action...?

just my humble pagan thoughts...
i hope you find what it is you seek....

1Ki 8:39 You know what is in everyone's heart. So from your home in heaven answer their prayers, according to the way they live and what is in their hearts.
1Ki 8:47 Later, they may feel sorry for what they did and ask your forgiveness. Answer them when they pray toward this temple I have built for you in your chosen city, here in this land you gave their ancestors. From your home in heaven, listen to their sincere prayers and do what they ask.
Isa 65:24 I will answer their prayers before they finish praying.
1Jn 5:14 We are certain that God will hear our prayers when we ask for what pleases him.

Mostly in the spirit.

Which is to say, both in words AND in "feelings".

I sometimes do both. I don't think it matters one way or another how we do it. Whichever way helps you establish your relationship with your God, or higher power, or whatever you prefer to call it. That is the best way to do it.

Words, feeling and in song (and if you could hear me sing.... boy, you just wouldn't even believe that I was paying homage to my God!).
