My cats have been scratching a lot lately, and I put flea medicine on them, but it didn't seem to help.

Now I just noticed these tiny black worms where my cats lay, and I am totally freaking out! They're a couple centimeters long and there's a lot of them.

It's too late to call the vet right now. What the hell are these things?!

No, definbitely not dead or flea dust. They're alive and moving around, so they're obviously worms of some type.

Could they be flea larvae?

I have no idea. But they're not flea larvae, because these are microscopic. Did you say a couple of CENTIMETRES long, i.e ______ that long?? I've no idea what they are but they're nothing to do with fleas.

Are you sure this is not "flea dirt"..which consists of flea feces and dried blood. Parasitic worms are usually white or cream colored.
