i went to gamecrazy last night to trade in my old ps3 games for warhawk but the guy was like, you need to be with a parent or guardian if you are under the age of 18 "according to NYS law". i'm 16 but ive always rode my bike up there other times with my friends and bought games there without my parents with no problem. he was giving me an attitude because i asked him since when that happened and that ive bought games by myself and he was saying "theres a camera, im not going to lose my job over a couple of games". i was about to rip his head off. this guy didnt even know what he was talking about by saying blu-ray is sensitive so i should buy the warranty for the game and tried to sell a usb charge cable to my friend along with a bluetooh headset that already comes with a USB cable. so the question is- is there really a NYS law that states a person that is under age of 18 needs to have a parent in order to buy a game?

I don't think it's a nation wide law, but it might be a law in several states. It's also common practice for stores to ask people for an ID if they suspect someone is under 17. They even ask people who don't look close to 17 to show ID. I've been carded several times at Best Buy for buying an M-rated games.

I think the only time that any store really enforce the ID carding is when someone buys an AO game, but since there are no AO games for the consoles, it doesn't matter.

This article is from 2005, but I don't think much has changed since then:

Is that guy an idiot because Warhawk is only rated T.

I don't know if there is a NYS law that states that a person under the age of 18 has to have an adult just to purchase a game, but you should be able to purchase Warhawk because it's rated T and you are 16 so you should be able to buy it.

If you are under the age of 17/18 you need an adult to buy a rated M game, but that's it. And there was times when I was 15 and 16 and I bought rated M games without an adult. You don't need an adult to be present to buy a rated T game if you are already 16.

Yes, but only for games rated M or higher. Also, as you may know, Blu Ray has an extra layer of protection to protect the data, it's much more scratch resistant than DVD.
