I know someone that got a general discharge because they hurt their knee. I figured it would be a medical discharge, but it wasn't.

He received a general discharge under honorable conditions because he had a condition which existed prior to entry and should have disqualified him in the first place. The only thing he lost out on was the right to wear an honorable discharge pin ("the ruptured duck") in the lapel of his suit coat. And, if he didn't complete over a year in service, he lost his Montgomery GI Bill for college. Otherwise, it's a good discharge.

No, a general discharge is not bad. A bad conduct discharge is bad. Of course a honorable discharge is by far the best.

General discharge is pretty neutral. You'll see many of them for people who are discharged very early into their enlistments, for non-disciplinary reasons.

is it general under honorable(gh) or general under other than honorable (oth) there is a big difference there. gh is not bad and an oth is kind of bad. you can change it to a gh after 6 months after discharge.

It's not bad, but not good. It raises and eyebrow and makes people think you did something wrong. Otherwise it would've been honorable.
