I had Lazik three years ago. It was quick, painless and went well. I experienced a bit of discomfort later in the afternoon. The next day was at work like nothing happened. I had dry eye for a couple of months. Used Restasis eye drops with good relief. I would recommend it to anyone who doesn't want to deal with glasses.

I had lasik back in the summer. I only have one complaint, which I knew would happen. I now see halo's around lights at night time. I was well aware that this could happen so it's not a suprise. I went in for my surgery, it was quick and painless. Well the numbing drops they put in my eyes burned for a few seconds... that's the only thing I felt. The surgery went fine. It took MAYBE 3 minutes per eye. Your doctor should tell you everything that they are doing. You will smell it burning as the doctor is doing it. As I was walking out the door my vision was reallyl fuzzy... BUT I COULD SEE!! You have somebody drive you home after the surgery then you go home and take about a 3 hour nap or so. Just to let your eyes rest. When I woke up from the nap, my eyes were uncomfortable. It felt like I had sand in my eyes. You can't rub or scratch your eyes at all. You also have to sleep with goggles on for the first week. I had to put in my eye drops (3 different ones) for a few weeks. My vision was fuzzy for about 5 days afterwards, then it was fine. I see 20/20 now without any correction. You have to wear sunglasses outside for the first week or two... Like I said, the only complait that I have is the halo's around lights. However... I was expecting that to happen! I can still drive at night and everything. I had been wearing glasses since I was in elementary school, so being able to see without any correction has been so awesome. It was worth the money, and being uncomfortable for a few days afterwards. I got released from my lasik doctor because I was doing so well!

This keeps coming up!

Nearly everyone who has it done is very happy, which is fine unless you are one of the rare exceptions, in which case you can be stuck with permanent problems.
The figures I've seen indicate 97% happy enough with the result to recommend it to a friend.

You might consider the FDA site neutral, as a balance between the clinics with a product to sell, and the disaster story sites.
I'm not saying anyone in either category is lying, but they're telling things as they see them.

The important checklists before going forward are:
Has your chosen clinic carefully explained the risks and possible outcomes, and explained why you are or are not a good candidate?
What's their local reputation? If they turn a fair number of people down, that's a good sign.
Are you happy that, without it being anyone's fault, your refraction may not come out near zero, or be as sharp as you'd like (even with enhancement treatment , glasses or contacts, on rare occasions)?

If you can't imagine saying: "I took the risk, it's gone wrong, it was my decision." then, I suggest, you're not accepting the risk, but trying to hope it doesn't exist.
(That's what the consent forms are all about. I would hope those will have been gone through well in advance of the surgery. Getting them signed just before is very bad practice. )

My husband had it done and it went perfect. Don't read everthing you read on the web and think that its going to happen to you. I've never heard of anyone having a bad experience, only positive. Have it done. You'll be happy that you did.
