As the context shows, the "sword" here is the new and different understanding of life that can divide families, breaking apart the natural bonds of kinship.

In other contexts, the sword is literal. In Luke 22:

He said to them, "But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don't have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one. It is written: 'And he was numbered with the transgressors'; and I tell you that this must be fulfilled in me. Yes, what is written about me is reaching its fulfillment."

The disciples said, "See, Lord, here are two swords."
"That is enough," he replied.

Taking up the cross of Christianity has often meant estrangement from family and danger from the world. However, it is the only way for reconciliation and perfect peace with God.

Cheers,
Bruce

There at the instant are not any money owed of Jesus ever donning around a sword, a minimum of no Hollywood variations that i've got ever considered, so of course this verse potential something else. The sword refers back to the sword of actuality. this is a sword to those no longer yet humble adequate to obtain his words of understanding. Many Christians locate peace in Jesus with the aid of fact the Christian coaching teaches them to have faith and positioned a recognition to God - something Jesus the guy on no account taught. all of us is able to experiencing peace interior. in actuality maximum Christians journey this peace by a sort of meditation, yet their conditioning interprets it as being the presence of Jesus or something. The prepare of accepting Jesus is the prepare of giving up your very own selfish will. you will word this could be an identical prepare as used via meditators or followers of multiple different religions, yet without the meaningless naming. Jesus did no longer come, he purely replaced into, as you have come and are. He taught his realizations of God to those that would desire to pay attention. What befell after he died has no longer something to do together with his coaching on an identical time as he replaced into coaching.

At least Jesus didn't form a religion that was based on the sword from day one. Mohammed and his followers slaughtered millions and had the basis for their religion steeped in the blood of those refusing to join their new faith.

you need to read the explanition to this verse...when Jesus said this verese he said it to the Jewish who believes in him that their relationship with their family is going to tear apart, for example lets say you are a muslim and you start to belive in Jesus so your family are going to get mad and they will be against you..they will hate you and fight you (that is exactly what jesus meant when he said that verse but he was saying it to the jewish who belived in Jesus) because jewish people who believedin Jesus at that time they were punished and their family were against them........you got it? next time read the explaintion of the BIBLE
