A heirloom quilt - passed down generation to generation. We'd like to display it as a wall hanging. The best way to do so, without gouging
quilt or walls (w/large holes, etc.) ? ?

Another way is to gat a piece of carpet tack strip and attach IT to the wall. Then just press the quilt to it. This way the quilt is fully supported.

Before you hang your quilt, to protect it, support it and keep it from sagging, or worse, ripping when it is hanging on the wall, you need to baste a rod pocket on the top of it, on the back. Just take a strip of cloth about 4" wide and as long as your quilt, and baste it on the back. This will allow you to put a rod through it, just like a curtain rod, and hang it from that. Then just put up curtain rod holders for it.

We mounted a drapery rod on the wall and have our antique quilt hanging over the rod. I take it down and refold it periodically just to change out the pattern.

I display mine this way.....I sewed in a strip of material across the top with a needle and thread using very large stitches so as not to damage it. I made a "pocket" like you see in kitchen curtains and then put a round drapery rod thru it and hung it like a drape. on the wall. This way it is supported 100% across the top.
