You apply what your tattoo artist tells you to apply. NEVER put anything on it THICK. This is why many people think petroleum jelly pulls ink. It is not the product itself, it is because people put it on so thick that the skin stays so soft it does not lock in the color.

It cracks me up when people say not to put petroleum jelly but to put A&D - that contains petroleum jelly too!!

Just listen to your artist. We generally ask clients to apply lotion after a couple of days because that helps take care of the extremely dry condition yet is absorbed and does not act as a gooey magnet for bacteria.

First off petroleum jelly is practically the same as A/D ointment just with some antibacterial additives. I cannot believe that a tattoo shop owner would still recommend putting it on your tattoo ! WOW, Anyway I would recommend using an unscented fragrance free type lotion eucerin, or the cheapy versions work really well, put a pea sized amount on your tattoo rub lightly as possible and any excess lotion you should dab off with a paper towel again as lightly as you can just pat. peeling and itchy is good means the tat is healing well , don't itch..... you know the drill ;P hope this helps

Ite better not to because it stops your skin from breathing right and can harbor infection. Wait 2-3 days before you put anything on it and used something like Lubriderm (unscented). Every tattoo I have had I have used Lubriderm and they have all turned out really bright and beautiful. Treat it well, don't over do the lotion and don't wash it super often. Good Luck!

You can if you want but only dab enough on so that it is barely shiny enough for you to see. I put neosporin on it for about a week then switched to Aveeno lotion. I was told not to put petroleum jelly on it but i know people that have a were ok.
THE ONLY DEFINITE THING TO SAY IS DO NOT OVERMOISTURIZE IT! It can cause infection. Let it breathe!

No.

it will pull the color out of your tattoo

use either A& D ointment or nothing at all and then start using Lotion after a few days.

just make sure you let it air out as much as you can and dont make it too moist.

It really depends on what your tattoo artist tells you. When I got mine, I was told to put something thick like vasaline-ish on it, but a friend of mine was told never ever to put anything thick in it, to use something more like regular lotion on it. It may depend on the type of ink/needle used. In the end though, it probably is more important to just keep it moisturized.
