Just wondering.
The statement was in an answer to my last question and the notion just seemed silly to me.

Actually, yes.

There is a very moving passage of scripture about a vision of a valley of dry bones being brought back to life, although I cannot now remember the actual verses. My mum used to read that at times of unhappiness in her life and cry over it, because she related to the symbolism of the bones restoring to life as an encouragement, a renewal of hope.

In years past I read it myself, and was able to tap into the emotion of my mother, to feel a bit of what she was feeling at times of despondency, and to understand how alone she must have felt, when the only thing she had to comfort her in her life at times were words on a page.

Dry bones, indeed.

Actually, I read a few passages once, a few years ago, that brought me to tears. It was just so beautifully written. I do not recall now what the passages were.

That, to me, is no different from reading any other book and shedding a tear. Regardless of what I think of the Bible in terms of validity, there are some nicely written passages in it.

Yes, many, many times...

Specific aspects of certain situation have moved me to tears...

For example, when Jesus heal a leper who has never been touched... Luke 5:12,13 - "On a further occasion while he was in one of the cities, look! a man full of leprosy! When he caught sight of Jesus he fell upon his face and begged him, saying: “Lord, if you just want to, you can make me clean.”  And so, stretching out his hand, he touched him, saying: “I want to. Be made clean.” And immediately the leprosy vanished from him."

Imagine for years everyone avoided you, and throw stones at you if you came near... Imagine peoples despised you. And suddenly this man touches you for the first time in ages...

Human contact is one of the thing lepers miss so much...

This simple act of kindness was definitely an extra kindness from Jesus, because he could have healed the man from a distance...

There are many other example where Jesus does small barely noticeable acts of personal kindness...

Take the Samaritan woman at the well... she was coming later in the day... Most of the women from her village would have come earlier in the morning... Why was she coming later in the day? Jews did not even speak to their own wives in public in that day. Jews hated Samaritans... This woman had many husbands and the man she was with was not her husband... Summing up all the information in the account she was not a woman who was respected even in her own community... Yet Jesus spoke to this woman and gave her due respect... She was the first person, he directly told that he was the Christ... A marginalized Samaritan Woman... Imagine that...

So, Yes, reading the bible makes me cry sometimes... it's hard to keep it in...

Journey Well...

"“‘This is what the Sovereign Lord Jehovah has said to these bones: “Here I am bringing into YOU breath, and YOU must come to life. 6 And I will put upon YOU sinews and cause to come upon YOU flesh, and I will overlay upon YOU skin and put in YOU breath, and YOU must come to life; and YOU will have to know that I am Jehovah.”’”-- Ezekiel 37:5, 6

I have read the Bible and wept: tears of joy, sadness, relief... different tears, different occasions but always profound.

Yes. I have also been shocked when after fervent prayer and subsequent random opening of the Bible, have been given specific pin-point answers that could not have been coincidental....

Jack, check out Ezekiel 37... it is prophetic and speaks of the 1948 rebirth of the nation of Israel.. Your Mom found hope in a personal -spiritual application of the text..(((Yack and Jack)))

Yes, I have. I have cried many times when reading the Bible and feeling convicted by the power of the word and of the Holy Spirit.

Yes. There are parts I have cried over. I cry when I read the story of Joseph in Genesis. How his brothers betrayed him but he forgave and broke down when he saw them years later. I cry when I read about Christ dying on the cross for us and picturing him thinking about me at that moment. I also cry thinking about how Joseph took care of Mary during the pregnancy, birth and life of Christ.

If you believe the Bible, you have to read it as if the stories are happening in front of you. That way you can feel their emotions and it makes the Bible come alive.

Not that I can remember. However I have often wept in church or while praying. Sometimes God's presence is just so overwhelming and His love so great you can't control your emotions and tears just flow.
