i've been buying food at the dollar store, i'm 71 and still alive and in good health. watch that the cans are not puffed up or the seam is not broken. check that bags of chips, etc. aren't open. frozen foods i don't buy as there is no way to check that they haven't been defrosted and refrozen.

What does your mom think...that they get their food from the dumpster? They get their line of food from reputable distributors just like savemart or walmart do. I buy from Dollar General and yes their food is cheaper and sometimes better. But sometimes worse.....you have to trial and error with them. Their brand is Clover Valley. And DG was the only store I could find Eggnog in. lol

If you're talking about Dollar General their products are just fine. I shop there all the time and they sell a lot of name brand products too. Those little 4/.100 off brand candy bars are especially good.

Most of the food in dollar stores are not name brand products. I bought relish from dollar stores. It tastes the same as name brand stuff. But not everything is up to quality.

I'm sure most of the things are fine..just make sure you check the expiration date before you buy them.
And try and make sure they are a good brand..if it's a brand you've never heard of you probably want to stay away from it. For example if it says on the package "Mr. Goodchips Cheesy Crunchies" it's probably best not to get those.
I love the dollar store too ;-)

If it is, I may die soon! :P It is just fine. It's just that snack foods at other stores are marked way up, dollar store snacks just don't make as huge of a profit, but the food is just the same. Eat a way!

no that is not true. dollar store food is fine, just like food from walmart or from anywhere else. just becaues its produced cheaper does not mean it will harm you. just be wary that you pay for the reduction in cost with a reduction in flavor

Well, I've never heard of most of the brands... but they do have to meet the FDA's guidelines for wholesomeness, even if they provide no nutritional value.
That siad, most "munchies" are bad for you regardless where you buy them. Listen to your mum.
