Due to the fact that you neither confirm or deny the existence of God, you would fall under "Agnostic." You are correct, that does not make you an atheist. Something could happen at any given moment to make you decide, but until then you are kind of "on the fence" until you have proof. You live your life based on good morals and values. I hope you find this web site useful in answering some of your questions.

Don't test God by demanding visual proof. If you really think that is required, and God chooses you, you won't like the way He does it. He could put you in prison, or deform you, or some other bad thing to bring you closer to Him. I know it sounds awful to think that a loving God would do that, but it true. Many have been called in ways that you can only imagine. If you have the willingness to have faith, then have faith. If you are not willing to have faith, but demand proof, you will never find God until it is too late.
I had a significant experience and God showed me that He is there. I know what I'm talking about. Believe me when I tell you this. Make your decision based on truth, love, and forgiveness. Accept the gift that God has for you. The gift will prove to you that God is real.

Very tricky. I know exactly what you are going through though. I was where you are now and felt that I had to have PROOF that there is a God. But to be believe in God is to have FAITH without needing proof.
What I think now tends to be bits and pieces from different religions. Not just one. I would like to ask you...Do you really have to BE a certain religion? Is it not enough to live your life the way you see fit and do the "right" thing because it's what you know is "right"? When you are ready to find the answers they will come to you. Reading and research will help you find the perfect fit for you.

In all honesty, if you read the gospels (the life and times of Jesus Christ as recorded by 4 of his followers) with an open mind, you can only come to one of four possible conclusions.
Either Jesus was a flat-out liar, or he was a lunatic, or he was lucifer himself, deceiving the people, or he was who he claimed to be, the LORD.
C.S. Lewis in his book "Mere Christianity" (which I HIGHLY recommend) said "A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic - on the level with a man who says he is a poached egg - or he would be the devil of hell. You must take your choice. Either this was, and is, the Son of God, or else a madman or something worse. You can shut Him up for a fool or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God. But let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about His being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us."

You don't have to say THERE IS NO GOD with certainty to be an atheist. Just ask yourself the question....Do I believe there is a god?
It's got to be yes or no. There is no middle ground. If you say maybe, then that's as good as no thus you're an atheist. Kind of atheist-lite but still.
I'd place you in the agnostic camp. Not quite sure, still searching. Technically atheist due to your position of there "could be a god, but without proof I can't say". That's technically an atheist.

Since you don't know if there is a god, you are an agnostic. The type of deity you're tending towards might make you a Deist once you decide he (or she) actually exists. Deists believe there is a Creator, but that he is very hands off. Basically he created the universe and then left it to its own devices, not interfering in its development or communicating with inhabitants and not needing or wanting priase.

You say you want visual proof? Look around you. Those mountains didn't come from nowhere. That incredibly complex plant didn't just evolve to be the perfectly working organism it is.
I'm Christian, by the way, if you didn't realize ^_^
The word "religion" is such a general word. Within each religion are millions of people who all believe something slightly different. I wouldn't worry too much about labeling your beliefs. Find the truth and believe it. Don't fret over finding exactly "what" you are.

At the moment you sound like a soft atheist (don't believe in God, but don't say for sure there is no God), or perhaps an agnostic (won't state any belief because belief implies knowledge, and God is unknowable), and perhaps a secular humanist, who believes in ethical behavior and the care of other human beings based on the moral judgment found in reason and living in a community.

Religion is very confusing.
There is the entire notion of faith in it. It is believing despite the fact you cannot see or touch it.
I have faith in people, in nature, and in a God that let's us be and create - use our talents and allows us to be the best me I can be. I have felt life without this faith in God and with it... it has always been easier and more calming to believe...Not to to think this on earth is all there is. When I have lived life thinking with the logical we are alone here - it has been lonely and frustrating that I cannot be more and do more. Knowing that I control my own destiny is self motivating and free. I have friends that have died and I have to believe there is a better place that they are in. Best wishes in you quest to learn and feel. But knowing there is always a place in God's world for you is to me comforting.
