Of course you are speaking of the time called the Great Tribulation and there are different viewpoints on this. This is what is called a nonessential issue so there is plenty of room for opposing scenarios.
You must mean in by hidden away, place of safety, what some refer to as Petra. But others see Christians being raptured out before The Great Tribulation begins; another group sees it happening in the middle before He opens up the 6th seal; and yet another sees it happening right at the end just before Christ returns to earth and establishes His millennial kingdom for a thousand years.
I am not trying to dodge your question, just demonstrating that there are many views concerning this area. And of course you are speaking from a premillennialist's perspective and there are two other millennial views which would really throw this line of questioning out of kilter. Most today, however, myself included are premillennialists.
The time of sorrows seems to be on the horizon but it is in God's timing not ours. He allows us to know the season by signs but not the day nor hour. It would appear we are in the season.

It is when we thought we're ready but neglected the rest of the world. Just don't stop asking God what if... what if there's one more soul to be save.
... Then Abraham spoke up again: "Now that I have been so bold as to speak to the Lord, though I am nothing but dust and ashes, 28 what if the number of the righteous is five less than fifty? Will you destroy the whole city because of five people?"
"If I find forty-five there," he said, "I will not destroy it."
29 Once again he spoke to him, "What if only forty are found there?"
He said, "For the sake of forty, I will not do it."
30 Then he said, "May the Lord not be angry, but let me speak. What if only thirty can be found there?"
He answered, "I will not do it if I find thirty there."
31 Abraham said, "Now that I have been so bold as to speak to the Lord, what if only twenty can be found there?"
He said, "For the sake of twenty, I will not destroy it."
32 Then he said, "May the Lord not be angry, but let me speak just once more. What if only ten can be found there?"
He answered, "For the sake of ten, I will not destroy it."
33 When the LORD had finished speaking with Abraham, he left, and Abraham returned home.

It has been said for over 2000 years that we are in "the last days", I am telling that we are closer then most think, I dare say we are in the last DAY, maybe hours or even minutes. Nobody knows when Christ will return save the Father Himself. I can tell you though that Gabriel is tuning his trumpet and Jesus is asking God if HE can come and retrieve his bride at this very time.

When YHVH declares the close of probation. Rev.22:11. Then all choices will have become final, and He will care for His own until He comes to resurrect the righteous, and translate the living righteous.

Nobody knows that answer but Jehovah God himself. But I'm sure that if we believe, trust and have faith in him, he will keep us safe. He is a God of Love, not Hatred. He is a Just God. God Bless

But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.

Yes I believe it is very close. He is waiting on the rest of the Gentiles that will still repent. We need to keep our eyes on Israel. Maybe it's some of you here on Yahoo answers that is holding up the end hurry up, so we can all go home.

no man knows the hour or the day of His return, not even His Son, only the Father knows.
So, I can't tell you an honest truth. but in my opinion, I believe it will be soon, like within the next 5 years or so!

I believe so Starlight. Although I am looking forward to His return, I am praying that He will be longsuffering a while longer for those who have not yet accepted His atonement for their sins. God bless you!!!

It depends on where you believe God will call us to go to. There have been cults in the past that have encouraged their followers to hide in the mountains, then when nothing happened at the predicted time, they dissipated in shame. Others, like the JWs just keep predicting over and over again. (I kinda wonder how many wrong predictions they have to make before people realize they aren't getting it.)
