Traditionally in the US it's a good whiskey either Bourbon Whiskey (JimBeam, MAker's Mark, Wild Turkey) or a Sour Mash (Jack Daniel's, George Dickel). A lot of folks, like me prefer rum in their egg nog. ( I've always liked Bacardi Light Rum, BTW)
Some even put brandy or flavored brandy in their egg nog.

Brandy, Jack Daniels, or Southern Comfort, Rum....any are good. Southern Comfort may be my fav.
