The government gives out financial aid in the form of grants (which you don't ever have to pay back). All you have to do to find out how much money you qualify for is fill out the FAFSA- Free Application for Federal Student Aid here. http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/
The sooner you apply, the more money you can receive, but you can only apply about 8 months before you start attending school and not before January 1st. If you are going to start Fall 2008 then you can apply January 1st, 2008.

Avoid student loans because the interest rate is so high that it's not worth it.

The best site for scholarships is fastweb.com. Your school can also help you with scholarships. However, if you are unwilling to do something as small as write an essay, you probably won't get a cent. You're not going to get any scholarships being lazy.

ask your finacial aid office for more money...sometimes they give you more scholarship/grant money just by you asking!
