I would definately put in for somewhere warm. As a Marine, I have been to both Norfolk and San Diego. San Diego was awesome, year round nice weather, and scenery.

As an ET with a "C" school you will be narrowed down to what type of choices you are going to get. The equipment you will be working on will dictate where you will be going. If your stuff is only used on aircraft carriers you only have the choice of three places, San Diego, Norfolk or Washington state. This is an example. I would go big on your dream sheet, but mean it. What I mean is decide where you want to be for the next 4 years. You won't be transferring ANYWHERE until your entire first enlistment is over with so you better like the large geographical area you choose. Find out where your equipment is, like what classes of ships and go from there. If they tell you all different kinds of ships, pick your geographical location first and then the class of ship second. If you hate the east coast and put down you ONLY want Destroyers first you may find yourself on the Destroyer you wanted on the coast you didn't want. 95% of the Navy happens in the three locations I listed before choose which one you want and then choose everything else next. You really won't be choosing to much anyway, because you will find out that the married people choose first, the top students go next based on class ranking and everyone else follows after that. If you are not the superstar you are going to find yourself being TOLD where you are going to go based on the orders that are remaining. If there are 20 people in your class you will only have 20 sets of orders to choose from. You won't be selecting anything except what is remaining when it is your turn. Iceland was my only choice coming out of ET "A" school. That base is now closed so you don't even have that as a choice. Go to sea is all I can tell you. Shore duty sucks, sucks, sucks! You have seen shoure duty for nearly two years now, go to sea and see the world.

lol welcome to the Navy, mate.
Now then...
Depends on what you want to do, and what A school you're just finishing up.
If you're and ET, you're most likely going to Dam Neck VA or Dahlgren if you're an FC.
Not a whole lot to do, but they're more like suburbs of Virginia Beach anyway, and you can have a hell of a lot of fun there.
Dream sheet...if you're going on a sea billet I would see if I could get attached to either the Reagan or the Bush. Only got to tour the new Reagan, but it was sweeeeeet.
It all works out really, if you don't like it where you are, you only have to tough it out a little while until you rotate anyway.

I'm at GL too! Tell you detailer what you for C school, coms or radar then you get the choice between east coast, west coast, or overseas. Depending on where you want to go pick there.
Have a happy stand-down!

Think of broad choices centered around various locales. An example would be "any ship homeported Jacksonville, Florida" or "any ship homeported San Diego".
