I was born in D.C. and lived in Northern Virginia for 18 years. The monument has some drawings of George and some historical notes on Washington, D.C. in the lobby/entryway. At the top there are some long distance optical devices and some more notes explaining points of interest visible from the top.

The monument itself is a monolythe, which was a popular type when it was built.

Washington Monument was built to honor George Washington, who led our country to independence and became our first president. Inside is an elevator and a gazillion steps!

There isnt much inside really. Just an elevator to a lookout point. I think it has some kind of radio or plane signal thing on top. There's some designs and plaques also, if my memory serves me right. I went there like 4 years ago.

Its made mostly of Indiana Limestone.

Hi. The top is 100 OZ of a very rare metal (for its time) in the shape of a pyramid. Aluminum. http://www.answers.com/Washington+Monument?cat=travel&gwp=13

Inside is an elevator and stairs. On the interior walls, there are paintings, and sculptures. The elevator slows down on the decent, they open the doors, and you can see the art through some glass.
