Why does religion have to be based on a god's direct words (or supposed words) at all?

I follow my religion because it makes sense, because I have various personal reasons for believing certain beings exist, and because I believe they deserve respect. My religion teaches me ways of strengthening my connection with my gods. I put no stock into people who say "The gods said you're supposed to do X." If the gods are that specific in their needs, I'm confident they'll tell me themselves...athough I don't expect that to happen. They exist in a grander state than to nitpick the behavior of individuals.

well the Bible was inspired by people who walked and talked with God. and they put his voice to paper. If God were here on earth to write it, i suppose he wouldnt be God now would he? Because he would be here on earth. But God rules the whole universe.
