1. Joe was born on February 29 & Mark on March 1. So every time Joe had a birthday, Mark had 4 birthdays.
2. They were born inside an airplane that flew over Europe. Joe was born on the West side of Greenwich, than Mark was born on the East side off Greenwich. Because of the time difference Mark can be considered born 1 day earlier.
3. Joe died, Mark is still alive. So Mark is older than Joe :P

Joe was born earlier in the year, where as mark is older but born in a later month (say joe was born in march 1998 but mark was born may 1987)

it doesnt say they were born on the same day. earlier just means earlier in the day. for example Mark was born Apr. 12, 2000 at 5:00pm, and Joe was born July 4, 2000 4:30pm... So Mark is still older but born at a later time of the day.

Mark was born first, but he was born at night and Joe was born in the morning in a different year.

Joe was born in the morning and Mark was born in the afternoon. Mark, however, was born a few years before Joe.
Joe's birthday is in January and Mark's birthday is in (insert later month.) Mark was still born a few years before Joe.

Joe was probably born in March 1960 (which is earlier in the year) whereas Mark was probably born in December 1958 (which is later in the year).....
