Japanese do not translate western proper names. Their alphabet in really a form of picture writing. For instance if you pronounce the Japanese word for "house", you are spelling it in a sense. The spelling we use for Japanese words is from the Hepburn system. If you ask a Japanese person to spell the word "biru" (our way of spelling and saying their word for "building"), they would probably be confused
They use a system called katakana for western names. It is a group of symbols that denote a sound, but have no actual meaning in Japanese.
By the way the regular characters (kanji) the are used in Japanese are the same as those used in Chinese, but the pronunciation and meaning could be completely different in the two languages.
