I have read most of the answers to this question and it baffles me that some still say that Mormons are not Christians. I thought the meaning of the word Christian, was that they followed and believed in Jesus Christ. That is exactly what Mormons do. They have other insight into the story of Jesus' life, but they do follow and believe in Jesus.
How can that possibly be, they are not Christians.
Why are so many judgemental towards other religions without really knowing anything about that particular religion.
If you would honestly like to know the truth about other religions, why go by rumours and what other people say.
Why not find out for yourself and then give an opinion, not a judgement.
I am not Mormon and I do not belong to any religious group.
I do however, believe in the teachings of Jesus and follow his teachings as much as I can. What does that make me.
I really don't care if I am called Christian or not, but when a particular religion does follow Jesus' teachings and are told they are not Christian, I would like to know what is going on in the persons head that makes that statement.
People "gang" up on others because they believe that they belong to the only true religion. They judge, even though Jesus mentions many times, not to judge. Love thy neighbour as thyself, means to many, just the members of their religion. It confuses the mind as to how one can preach one thing and act another. It is mainly fear that leads the pack, sadly. Fear that one may be wrong and others right.
Judge not and you will be a much happier and peaceful person, just like Jesus predicted.

I find it's because a lot of people instead of investigating matters themselves, they only go on hearsay. I am a Jehovah's Witness and you would be amazed on the rumors that I have heard about our group and other religious groups. The proper way of getting a point across, is not to bash others, but to explain why you practice a certain faith. I really don't get wrapped up in the bashing thing because it is not about what man thinks, it is what I believe is the best way for myself to serve my Lord and Savior. When I come across a person who is fixated on putting down my faith, I first ask why and usually when they explain why, nine times out of ten, it is based on a rumor they heard rather than the truth. My job is spreading the word, the person I am spreading the word to job is to accept it or not, and only Jehovah has the job to judge. Also, it's prophesied in the Bible, that those that follow Jehovah's word, will be persecuted. Persecution I believe just comes with the territory when you are true follower of Jehovah.

I don't know why they gang up on the Mormons, but they gang up on JWs because we know the Bible better than them and can answer every Q from the Bible, while they have to rely on what their pastor said or some site written by someone else.

I honestly don't know. I don't have a problem with them unless they won't leave my house when I tell them I'm not interested. I'm even polite about it. I realize some of their beliefs differ from "traditional" Christians, but if you look at the whole of Christianity, overall, there are some unusual beliefs all around.

Simple. Jealousy. Jehovah's Witnesses and Mormons tend to be better Christians than their detractors. They actually walk the walk of their faith and not just talk the talk. It drives so-called Christians crazy. I am not saying that there are not those within the ranks of other Christian faiths who do not also sincerely try to follow the teachings of Christ. I know that there are. But a much larger percentage of Mormons and Jehovah's Witnesses do. Also the ranks of those faiths are growing by leaps and bounds whereas other Christian faiths are experiencing declining memberships. In the case of Jehovah's Witnesses, most of their members are people who have converted from other religions. To stem the tide, many Pastors and Priests instill in their members the idea that Jehovah's Witnesses are not Christians, are a cult and all manner of other ridiculous ideas that their members are all too happy to accept because now they feel better about their own "Christianity."

Jesus tells us to love the sinner not the sin. Many people follow man made teaching instead of GOD's word.
God also tells us to test the spirits
1 John 4:1 (New International Version)
1Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

i am mormon, and i really don't get this. i saw a book about us in a christian bookstore once and i cried because the contents weren't true. i asked the store clerk, why a book that was written with so many hurtful words is in a christian book store when christ would have never done that. he loved everyone and never avoided or promoted ill-will toward anyone. i had a woman once tell me that i believed in a different jesus than her. i said no it was the same, and she said "no, sweetie. our jesus is in the bible" i said so was mine- he's the one and only and she said "no, no sweetie. mine died on the cross for my sins" i said so did mine, but everything i said, she corrected me like she knew what i believed because her minister told her and gave her a pamphlet. i could have taken her home and showed her my king james version bible and she still wopuld have said i wasn't christian. anyway, people get something in their heads or someone like their minister who they respect tells them something and that's that. even though we share the same core beliefs, each of those two faiths have some very different beliefs, too, and i guess some people just believe there is only one way to be right. and yes, mormons believe they are right, but we would never look down on someone else who believes differently or tell our children not to play with them.

Answer is easy. We are different. I am one of Jehovah' witnesses, so I will not presume to speak for Mormons.
When I was indoctrinated with the evangelical Lutheran doctrines, I was told in no uncertain terms that 'other' churches, specifically the roman church, were not true Christians or followers of what we know to be truth.
Our pastor at the time was quite specific about that.
So, I knew that the R/C teachings, trinity, hellfire,
papal perfection, immortal soul, and a some others were wrong, bad, incorrect.
Imagine my surprise when I began catechism to see they believe almost the same. What was my reaction?
Keep looking for a true religion. I found it in Jehovah's witnesses. Please note:
1- We worship the God of Jesus, to whom Jesus prayed when he said 'Hallowed be THY name', not thy title.
2- We accept Jesus as the son of God. He said he was the son, the Father said Jesus was the son, all the writings of the NT state unequivocally that Jesus is the anointed, the son of the Most High. Jesus sits at the right had of his Father, awaiting his Father's command to smite the wicked.
3- We know that the soul is man himself. Most religions believe as do the heathens, ie, there is some etherial 'thing' floating around after we die. That is simply unbiblical and untrue. When created, man BECAME a living soul. We are also told that the soul that sins, it itself shall DIE.
The Bible says nothing about suffering, going off someplace or becoming one with another creature; gv transmigration.
4- We believe Christ's command to love your neighbour as yourself. I see the comments by the other religious people here calling witnesses a cult, unchristian, etc. Christ said we must NOT kill. Does their religion specifically tell their members to NOT kill?
No, resounds the answer! Feel free to write the baptist poster and the others if they believe killing is wrong; would their minister/ pastor/ priest tell them to NOT kill, period.
5- We are the only religion that actively preaches all over the world to persons in any status and encourages them to study their Bible. The Mormons do a 2 year stint, which is good. It is better than nothing. But it is not enough.
That is a major reason the 'common' churches do not like us. We are able to take away from their 'flock' thousands of paying members each year. As they pay their pastors some really handsome salaries, the preachers are quite unhappy.
If you would like more info as to why we were persecuted in the USA and some witnesses were murdered by protestant and catholic laymembers, feel free to write me privately.
