My pug gets acne. Is it normal for it to itch? How long does it take to clear up?

I've had my pug to the vet, and determined that he had a food allergy, which cleared up when I changed his diet. The plastic allergy makes alot of sense. He does have a new plastic water dish.

Hmm. Hadn't thought about using an astringent. Thanks!

It can be itchy. A common cause is using plastic water and feeding dishes. Switch to stainless steel instead to see if that helps. In the meantime, using an astringent, like Stridex pads, can help clear it up.

My first thought was the dish eats out of, but looks like you have that covered. Do you wash the dish daily? May want to do that at least until the acne is under control. The teddy getting wet constantly from chewing and rubbing on his face is probably doing it. I would wean him off Teddy. Or try giving Teddy washes in the washing machine regularly to remove the bacteria that is living on it. ADD: He is absoulutely the cutest Pug ever. Love the picture with his teddy!

Maybe consider switching to a sensitive skin formula food or just a more natural food? Skin problems are often diet related. If that's the root of the problem, changing foods would clear it up fairly quickly.

um...its not acne. its most likly a rash. he might be allergic to his shampoo, food, blanket, grass etc. take him to the vet to get an allergy test or change food and shampoo get a new blanket and keep him out of tall grass.
