My friend was a victim of credit card fraud. The thief stole about $500 worth of merchandise online. The IP was traced and the purchases were made at a university library in the same state that we live in. The address that the merchandise was shipped to is an abandoned house about 40 minutes away from where the thief ordered the merchandise - the house has been empty for about 5 years. Do you think there is any chance the thief can be caught?

NO WAY. Sorry... The same thing happened to me. I tracked down very clear video of someone using my card at a gas station with a perfect close ups of there face. The police still wouldn't do anything

Well if the police are seriously dedicated to the case, then they could do something like have another credit card number available in the same way that your friend's was and maybe, in some strange coincidental way, the same thief would retrieve the information, buy items and send them to the same address. Then when they went to pick it up, the police would be waiting for them.

But that seems awfully complicated and time consuming for something like credit card fraud. I think that it is possible, but unfortunately I don't think it's going to happen.

Good Luck to your friend

Probably not. If the IP belongs to the university, there are literally thousands of people who might be the perpetrator. And it's apparent that no one saw the merchandise delivered to the abandoned house either.

Yes since you know the address and the location was traced (same thing) . I cannot guarantee it but there is a chance.

yeah..probably..did you report it to Federal Trade Commission? A victim of fraud could always report immediately to FTC and maybe they could do anything about it.
