You must be thinking about His Dad COO COO Marlin as 1 of the early greats. Sterlin Did have his moments of greatness and glory Especially While Driving for Morgam McClure in the #4 Kodak Chevy--Back to Back Daytona 500 wins in 94 & 95 best I remember!!!!

Legendary founder of Nascar? I have to disagree with you on that one. His very first race was in 1976 when he subbed for his injured father. Nascar was founded in 1948 and if you want to talk about founders then the 3 major people involved with that are Bill France Sr, Cannonball Baker and Barky Barkhimer.
Is Marlin a good driver? Yes he is a good driver, he has won 10 races and 11 poles. He has also placed in the top 10 216 times. His best finish for a season was 3rd which he did twice. He did not start racing in the cup series until 1983...so nascar had been around quite a while before Sterling came along.

Coo Coo is the Legend and drove amongst the gods that made NASCAR what it is today. Son Sterling won but 10 races in his career and the last was over 5 years ago at Darlington. While certainly a tidy career with back to backs at Daytona, (thank the McClure team for that) I would not proclaim him a legend or a founder.

Sterling had his time interior the sport, yet now, i think of working section time is sweet on his section. I realistically do not see Sterling working many races this twelve months. he's a good guy, and loves a bologna sanwhich like I do (he does!), yet his best is in the back of him now. with a bit of luck in upcoming races this twelve months, we will see Sterling make a good volume of starts off. It hasn't been the comparable considering the fact that he left Chip Ganassi Racing. Then Bobby Ginn became haywire on all and sundry and fired virtually the entire Ginn Racing team, leaving Sterling out of a journey for extremely a while now. yet, a minimum of he has his 2 Daytona 500 wins to cherish.

He's been a decent driver but certainly NOT a founder of NASCAR. He might be legendary for the fact that he tried to work on his car during the red flag at the Daytona 500 but NOT for being that great of a driver.

Maybe his dad "Coocoo" was a legendary founder of NASCAR. Sterling was just another above average driver who won a few races and contended for one Cup until he got hurt back a few years ago.

Sterling's biggest problem is that he didn't retire when he should have. Kind of like Darrell Waltrip.... They kept racing until they were almost embarrassing themselves. It's taken Darrell's reputation several years to recover from that, and I imagine it will take Sterling's reputation several years as well.
EDIT: Cooliz!! You'd better check your NASCAR info. VERY few fans, (excpet ignorant morons) hold Sterling responsible for Dale's death.

I think alot of his accomplishments are overshadowed by the fact that he took part in the wreck during the Daytona 500 that caused Dale Earnhardt Sr.'s death and that alot of people blame him for causing the accident. I still feel he took part in it and dont like him as a driver personally, but I think that he is just a dirty driver who races a little to aggressively. Kind of like Juan Pablo Montoya this year. He is making more enemies then friends in a sport thats all about having friends on the track. He made a mistake this year by pushing everyones buttons, I can tell you that.

Sorry but Sterling is not that old.Sterlings father(Clifton"Coo-Coo" Marlin) was one of the early drivers.
Though Sterling is a good driver and is capable of excellent runs (even if he attempts to pull a fender off a tire during a red flag)

Though not really a legend, he is a very talented driver, and is great with the media. His injury in 2002, which may have cost him the championship, seems to have made him gun shy when it comes to being aggressive enough to compete. I think, as a 2 time Daytona 500 winner he will be a historical figure in the future, and I hope he doesn't quit racing now, if he doesn't get a Cup ride. He could probably have as good a time in the Truck Series as Johnny Benson is having now, and who knows, maybe somebody will see something in him and pick him back up for Cup.
