I am going with my boyfriend of three years to his house for christmas. This will be my second year going and I am very familiar with his family but they are not the most welcoming people. I dont feel as though they have taken the chance to get to know me or make me feel special at all. Nevertheless I would like to/ feel obligated to get them a gift. I would just like to give them a gift card to a nice restaurant. I would like to tell them how I feel...that I love their son but wish our (the parents and I) relationship was better. Would it be wierd to include a message that includes something like : "I am very thankful to have your son in my life. I hope that we can get to know each other better". Do you have any other statements that are appropriate when giving a gift that would show that I am very interested in being with their son and being a part of their family hopefully. I think mine might sound kind of tacky. What is your opinion/suggestion of alternate methods of stating this?

I think you have it worded beautifully. Maybe you could suggest to your boyfriend that at another time, you could go out to dinner with his folks. (His treat, of course) I like the gift certificate idea, but are they the kind of people that will judge "how much" the gift certificate is worth? Whatever it is, make sure the amount would cover an entire dinner. If you are trying to make a good impression, I wouldn't want them to think you are someone who just bought the gift card to avoid putting thought into a present. Maybe get something else small like picture frames or candles. Good luck!

Hi... i think it's nice to give a gift certificate to a restaurant, but you dn't have to try and force the parents to "get to know you better"...
Perhaps just write something to the effect that you are pleased they were so generous to include you in their holiday....
Begging for acceptance isn't the way to go... some families are not that outgoing, either..... observe them and see if this might be the case?

i admire L, Mello and Matt. they are the fallen heroes of loss of life notice! without them mild would have long previous unpunished and that they openly and willingly sacrificed their lives for it! ( you could tell from the convo L had with Watari on the subject of the "arrangements after his loss of life" that he suspected to lose his existence quickly. Mello had that convo with Halle that led to him finding very unhappy and depressed and announcing " then i'm the only one that would do it" and Matt reached for a gun in the back of his neck. I toddler you not! I overlooked it the 1st few cases aswell, yet gradual-mo even with the incontrovertible fact that it and you will see the shield of a gun protruding from hist vest! He knew he became into going to die and needed to take some with him.) all of them gave up each thing they had to make optimistic Kira would be stopped. They have been selfless and courageous and that i admire them for it. close to on the different hand I HATE! not purely did he in simple terms use the information others had given their lives for, he did it on an analogous time as finding down on them. keep in mind while L died and he replied " in case you could't resolve the puzzle, in case you could't win the sport, you're purely a loser". keep in mind that?
