My pomeranian was born on December 19th, 2006 and I got him when he was about 7 weeks old. I had him for about 4 months and then I took on a large project at work which required lots of travel. I loved this dog soooooo much I considered getting a new job so that I could have more time to dedicate to him. When I came home from work, I was all his and I took him everywhere w/ me (accept work of course).
The person who does my nails just got married and purchased a huge house with a large back yard and was looking for a puppy. I thought it would be a much better fit for him because she owned her own business and whould have more time to dedicate to him.
Anyway, long story short, I recently got a new job that requires absolutely no travel and out of no where my nail tech tells me she needs to get rid of the dog! I OF COURSE want him back! He's turning 1 years old on December 19 and Im so afraid that he might not remember me since he's no longer a baby and its been 8 mths. Any thoughts?

Collette, I dont think you read everything. The lady needs to give him up. I asked her from the very beginning to always let me know if things dont work out with the dog or if something comes up as I'd take him off her hands in a heart beat rather than letting him be placed in yet another hom. I think that everything works out for a reason because it's so funny that as soon as I get a new job, the opportunity to get my baby back presents itself! We were made for each other! :-)

Whether he remembers you or not, take him back if you want him. You can build new memories with him and he'll warm up to you pretty quick. In my experience dogs have a memory about like a younger child's. (between 4-7 year olds).

A dogs memory is very good. We took our 5 y/o black Lab female that we have had for 5 months, back for a visit to the breeder we got her from.
She remembered all the other Labs that live there. The breeder put her in the living room and closed the door so she could do something. Our lab remembered the way into the kitchen from the other exit of the living room.
The other Labs remembered her and the new mom there didn't snarl at her when she got close to the 4 month old pups.
One of our other Labs remembers where most people at the training club keep their treats when she sees them after being gone .
They are smart.

He will definietly remember you. On dog whisperer the animal rescue shelter found a abandoned house with a dog inside the basment all locked up. The shelter had the dog for about.. maybe half a year? (this was during the katrina) Later.. the rescue shelter found it's original owner 6 months later the shelter had the dog. He came jumping into the owners arms. It turns out the owner wasn't abandoning the dog, the owner just couldn't get back into the house!

I believe that he will remember you. My childhood dog, lived with my parents when they moved and I stayed... I went back to visit and when I'd get there, she would wag her tail and get all excited. She remembered me even though it had been 6 months since I saw her. She passed away last January at the age of 16, it sucks that when I go for Christmas, she won't be there.... Sad, she won't be hiding under all the wrapping paper. Anyways, I think that he will remember you.

aww good for you!
i dont think dogs have a good memory but they have this connection to smells.
im sure at first he will be a little shy and not remember but once he looks around your house he will be fine im sure. he will prolly remember little things like his favorite carpet spot to chew or where you would always put his water bowl.
its been less than a year. Im SURE he will remember one thing at least.
=] happy holidays good luck!

Aw, he'll remember you. And hell, even if he didn't, if you love him and care for him, that'll work too, he'll be happy. It's great that you and she both are considering what the dog really needs, even if he's been juggled around a bit.

I think he'll remember you. If anything I believe a dog will remember a person they once loved.

A dogs memory is good enough to remember you but if you try to teach it something than re-teach it every other week!

Their memories are excellent, that is why it is said, dont ever hit a dog or abuse it, it will never forget it, and it will come back to bite you in the seat

get him, he will probably remember you, but even if he doesn't if you love him and give him the attention he needs he will be happy.
just be prepared to spend extra time with him, he will be a bit skittish after being passed around so often early in his life.
