My cat has been dipping socks in her water bowl and making a pile of wet socks in the closet. Any ideas why?

All I can say is cats do the craziest things! My cats like to take my hair ties and "drown" them in their water bowl. One stole 20.00 from my mom's purse and buried it in the litter box! Who knows what the furry little critters are thinking? They sure are fun though!

Maybe she is making a nest for you to deliver? How sweet! I did not think of this before until I went back and noticed the name under your avatar! Cats rock!

This is very interesting. I have never heard of cats put things into their water bowl. My cats would drink water from scooping water with their paws. Sometimes they do that but sometimes they scoop to drink then goes back to drinking like a cat. I read up a few books about that and some cat behaviorists said that the cat is trying to find the level of water in the bowl. I guess you should put your socks away and put your toilet lid down.

lol. Sometimes cats feel they have to help us out. For some reason, your cat maybe feels that this will help you some how.

Do you wear socks around the house? If not, she may feel that you need socks.

As for wetting them, maybe she is trying to inspire you to do more washings?

you said "her"

Make sure she is not preparing an area to have kittens in.

A little unusual to have wet socks, however, not unheard of.

Her water bowl is familiar so perhaps it's comforting to her and will be comforting IF she's going to have kittens.

If she keeps putting them in the same place, I'm betting you are about to be a "grand-kitty ma"
